So we finally got our hands on a Blue Arc ECU with the AEM autotune kit to test out on the Corolla

We heard good things about this locally manufactured ecu

Some features that made us decide on this ecu:

✅ Boost control
✅ Boost per gear
✅ Full sequential
✅ Flat foot shifting
✅ Auto tuning 😁
✅ Multi spark
✅ Accurate Timming

We must say thus far the technical support for the ecu has been uncomparable to any other ecu

Failure analysis of the 4agze 1600cc motor

Part of racing is R&D and to analysis the failure points

We were pushing the limits of the stock 4agze internals with just Arp bolts, the motor threw a conrod at 440kw and 642nm while testing.

We boosted it 2.5 bar plus for awhile.

Bearings and piston show no signs of wear.

Therefore the possibilities for failure are:

1. Arp bolt failure? Due to defective bolt, incorrect stretch or exceed tensile strength

2. Limits of the stock Ze conrod? The spike in compression from the nitrous and turbo coming in to aggressively could have weakened the rod.

3.Blown head gasket? The headgasket looked bubbled up around the water jackets prehaps the gasket started leaking and hydrolocked bending the conrod.

Just before the engine threw a rod, the launch control spiked 2 bar plus at 5500rpm multiple times. The aim was only for 1 bar of boost. This could have placed excessive load on headgasket which lead to the rod and conrod bolt failure due to coolant entering the cylinder. To prove this further we also weirdly did note that the water pipes were pressurised on the last run.

Prehaps we have not yet found the limits on the stock ze internals....

Solution: Reduce launch control boost and O ring the block
