To properly maintain and service an Audi A4 (B8) 2.0 TFSI, model year 2012, follow these essential tips. This guide covers routine maintenance and key areas to check:
1. Regular Oil Changes
Interval: Every 5,000–7,500 miles or 6–12 months.
Oil type: Use VW 502 00 approved 5W-40 synthetic oil.
Tip: Replace the oil filter with each oil change. A Mann or OEM filter is recommended.
2. Timing Chain Inspection
This model uses a timing chain, not a belt.
Issue: Chain tensioner failure is common.
Tip: Listen for rattling on cold starts. If you hear it, have the chain and tensioner inspected immediately.
3. Spark Plugs & Ignition Coils
Interval: Replace spark plugs every 35,000–50,000 miles.
Tip: Use OEM NGK or Bosch plugs. If misfires occur, check coils—common failure point.
4. Transmission Fluid (Tiptronic or CVT/Multitronic)
Interval: Every 40,000 miles.
Tip: Use only Audi-approved transmission fluid. Not all units are "lifetime fill" despite claims.
5. Coolant System
Check for leaks, especially around the water pump and thermostat.
Interval: Replace coolant every 5 years.
Tip: Use G13 or G12++ coolant—never mix with universal green coolant.
6. Brake Fluid
Interval: Every 2 years, regardless of mileage.
Tip: Flush with DOT 4 fluid. Check for leaks at calipers and master cylinder.
7. PCV Valve and Diverter Valve
Issue: Common failure causes rough idle or oil leaks.
Tip: Replace with OEM or upgraded versions if issues arise.
8. Carbon Buildup
Direct Injection engines (like the 2.0 TFSI) often suffer from carbon buildup on intake valves.
Tip: Walnut blasting around 60,000–80,000 miles helps restore performance.
9. Air Filters
Engine air filter: Replace every 20,000 miles.
Cabin filter: Replace annually.
10. Battery and Electronics
Battery typically lasts 5–7 years.
Use a scanner to check for parasitic drains if battery dies often.
