Yesterday was the official opening of the new teen center at BGCSA (boys and girls club South Africa) yesterday. Here are some pictures of what's been achieved. For those who don't know what BGCSA is. It is a facility that is there for children aged 6-19. Allowing them to have a place of safety and structure after school when parents are not home to care for them. Preventing them getting involved in crimes and gangs by giving them some life skills and a sense of ownership, belonging and nurturing. This club has 175 kids as members. Staff include teachers and sports coaches assisting kids in their development. On arrival they are fed lunch (compliments of McDonalds) Once their homework is complete they can do various daily activities including basket ball (on a professional NBA level court compliments of NBA USA ) netball, soccer, computers skills, table tennis, pool/ snooker, and a multitude of various board games. PlastiColors is one of the biggest private contributed to the club having sourced computers, various office equipment ( desks chairs cupboards etc) park benches, the containers and a host of other items. Sasol and Tupperware along with PlastiColors are the only 3 founding sponsors still involved in this club. I sit on the board of BGCSA and we are currently expanding to 2 additional clubs in the Soweto area and a further 4 clubs nationally (eastern and western cape, Durban, and Pretoria) in the next 2 years.
