This is something we’ve been wanting to test properly.

When we started this series, the goal was simple:

Help the first-time car audio buyer make smarter decisions without wasting money.

And one of the biggest decisions people face is the enclosure.

Not everyone can afford a custom-built box.

Not everyone has the tools or knowledge to build one.

And sometimes… you simply don’t have the time.

📦 3 different prefabricated enclosures

Two of these enclosures have already been tested in the series…

But we’ve added a brand-new design to the mix.

Same car.

Only the enclosure changes.

And the results were VERY interesting. 👀

This isn’t about saying a prefab box is better than a custom enclosure.

A properly designed custom enclosure will always have its advantages.

🚨 HOW MUCH POWER DO I REALLY NEED? 🤔

This is probably the biggest source of confusion in car audio.

Most people think they need the biggest amplifier they can afford…

The truth is, many people spend money they don’t need to because they choose the wrong amplifier size.

🔥 Welcome back to the Dual Subwoofer Shootout!

For this episode we wanted to answer one simple question…

How much power do you really need?

Our test setup:

🔊 2 × Starsound Spectrum 12” subwoofers
⚡ 1 × Murica Loud 2000.1 amplifier
📦 3 different enclosure designs

The testing reminded us that power is only one piece of the puzzle.

Enclosure design, system setup and matching your equipment correctly can make just as much difference as adding more watts.

Then we decided to do something extra…

🎬 We ran a bonus test.

The results surprised us.

The Spectrum 12” subwoofers handled well above their rated power without any issues during the test.

Even more impressive…

The Murica Loud 2000.1 was supplied by the Cherry’s completely stock electrical system, and it still had enough power to perform exactly as we wanted.

That proves an important point…

You don’t always need the biggest amplifier.

You don’t always need to upgrade your electrical system.

A well-matched setup with the right enclosure and properly rated equipment can deliver excellent results.

At Starsound, we believe amplifier ratings should be honest and achievable in the real world—not exaggerated numbers that only exist on paper.

That’s why we test our products the same way our customers use them.

🚨 THIS WASN’T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN… 😳

I thought the two 12” subwoofers would be the biggest story of this test…

They weren’t.

🔥 Welcome to the start of our brand-new Dual Subwoofer Shootout!

After an incredible response to our Single Subwoofer Shootout, it’s time to take things to the next level with two subwoofers, different enclosure designs and real-world testing.

For our first test we used:

🔊 2 × Starsound 7300D4 12” subwoofers
⚡ 1 × Starsound M5 amplifier
📦 A custom-built enclosure designed by the vehicle owner

When the Term-LAB stopped…

📊 142.43 dB
⚡ With 975 watts of clamped power…

I genuinely had to look twice.

Not because of the score…

But because the Starsound M5, rated at 600 watts RMS @ 1 ohm on the subwoofer channel, produced 975 watts during the test.

That’s more than 50% above its rated power.

Now I’m honestly not sure what impressed me more…

🔥 The pair of 7300D4 subwoofers performing so well in that custom-built enclosure…

Or…

⚡ The M5 amplifier delivering far more power than its rated output.

That’s exactly why we’re doing this series.

Not to tell you what to buy.

Not to create hype.

But to put equipment through real-world testing, measure the results, and let you decide what impresses you most.

🚨 I WASN’T EXPECTING THIS… 😳

After weeks of testing different single 12” subwoofers, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what this final test would do…

I was wrong.

Welcome to the Grand Finale of our Single Subwoofer Shootout. 🏆

For this final test, we used:

🔊 Pioneer 3020 PRO 12” subwoofer
⚡ Starsound Murica Loud 3000.1 monoblock amplifier
📦 Two different enclosure designs

Going into this test, I knew the Pioneer had a strong reputation…

But I never expected it to perform like this.

When the meter stopped at…

🔥 1….7 dB
⚡ With just 1552 watts of power…

…I genuinely had to look twice.

This wasn’t just a good result—it exceeded every expectation I had.

That performance sees the Pioneer 3020 PRO finish at the top of our Single Subwoofer Shootout.

But this series has never been about proving one product is “the best.”

It’s been about testing equipment in the real world, comparing different combinations, and helping people understand how choices like the enclosure, amplifier and setup can influence the final result.
