THE FIRST 5 000 KM
I’ve now done just over 5 000 km on the MaxTrek Mud Trac M/T tyres, and so far I’m really impressed with their performance.
These tyres haven’t just seen tar. I’ve had them on gravel roads, rocky 4x4 trails and proper off-road terrain, which has given me a good opportunity to see how they perform where a mud-terrain tyre is supposed to work.
The off-road grip has been excellent. On loose and uneven surfaces they give me plenty of confidence and traction.
One of the biggest surprises, though, has been the ride comfort. Off-road I normally drop them to around 1.7 bar, and at that pressure they give a really soft, comfortable ride while still providing excellent grip.
At 5 000 km, my first proper verdict is simple:
✅ Excellent off-road grip
✅ Comfortable at 1.7 bar off-road
✅ Handles rough and rocky terrain well
✅ Good all-round performance so far
✅ Definitely impressed after the first 5 000 km
There’s still plenty of mileage to go, so I’ll keep an eye on tread wear and long-term durability and give another update further down the road.
But for now, the MaxTrek Mud Trac M/Ts are doing exactly what I fitted them to do – getting me off the tar and into the adventure.
Next stop: 10 000 km.
