Le Cap Motorcycles Le Cap Motorcycles in Cape Town Motorcycle service and repairs. I'm neither frightened by nor too arrogant to work on old bikes like Bol d' Or's and SACS GSXR's.

I do pretty much everything from changing oil or a tail light bulb to full engine rebuilds & restorations. Not at all :D
Suspension modification and repair from fixing leaking fork seals to aftermarket shocks. Brakes from pads and brake fluid via caliper overhaul to steel braided hoses. Tyres supplied & fitted. This one was quite a riddle:
Messed up front forks.
37mm.
Wait, the CB1 had 35mm, and the SP06 (CBX Pro Link) had 39mm forks
I eventually identified the front end as originating from a 1981 CB900F SC01, the only Bol d' Or which came with a 37mm front end. Early models were 35mm, from 1982 on they had TRAC 39mm forks.
It looks as if the complete front was swapped, forks, triple clamps, including discs and calipers.
Never a dull moment.

You just bought a brand new bike.
It is squirrely.
Does not want to run straight.
You think it's you. A new bike, right?
Some social media expert tells you: "The new tyres need to settle in!"
Wrong!
The steering head bearings are over tightened.
We get a fair amount of brand new bikes through the workshop, for lowering or suspension upgrades.
The steering head bearings, like wheel bearings, brake pads and drive chain and sprockets are usually not included in the warranty, deemed to be wear items.
The bearings will get destroyed within a few thousand kilometres.
Replacement is somewhere between ZAR 4000 and ZAR 5000.
In the meantime you ride a new bike which handles like a wheelbarrow full of bricks.
CRF 300, zero kilometres.
