MSA DRAG RACING ON SATURDAY 28 MAY CANCELLED
Unfortunately, due to forecasts of rain from mid-morning onwards, the promotors and the MSA Stewards of the meeting have called ‘force majeure’ on the scheduled MSA Drag Racing event at Killarney on Saturday 28 May, so that portion of the day’s events will not go ahead.
Competitors’ entry fees will be carried over to the next MSA Drag Racing event at Killarney; spectators who bought their tickets via Computicket will be able to obtain a refund from Computicket.
All the weather forecasts predict rain with some predicting showers from as early as 11:00am on the day of the event.
The decision to cancel the Drag Racing portion of the event was made due to safety concerns for competitors, particularly in the acceleration and braking areas (Track Bite and water together create an exceptionally slippery surface), as well preventing possible damage to the timing system due to water getting into the equipment while it’s being dismantled and packed away in the rain.
There would be financial loss for competitors if the event were to proceed, only to be cancelled shortly after the start due to adverse weather.
There would also be financial loss to the spectators if the event were to proceed and then be rained out, since no refunds or carry-overs for spectator tickets would be possible.
The Short Circuit, Rallycross and Karting portions of the event will go ahead as planned, however; IASCA officials have also confirmed that their Sound-Off in the Joubert Pits will proceed as planned, with 45 entries already confirmed and 10-15 more expected on the day.
