Vacancy: Qualified Auto Electrician

Location: Cape Town, South Africa

HD Transmissions, a trusted leader in heavy-duty automatic and manual transmissions for over 30 years, is seeking a Qualified Auto Electrician to join our team. This role requires expertise in electrical systems of trucks, buses, and earth-moving vehicles, with a strong focus on diagnostic and transmission-related electrical work.

Minimum Requirements:

- Trade-tested Auto Electrician (Merseta Red Seal qualification required)
- 3ā€“5 years relevant experience working on auto electrical systems for heavy-duty vehicles
- Proficient communication skills (read, write, and speak) in Afrikaans and English
- Valid driverā€™s license (Code 10/14 advantageous)
Own reliable transport
- Good health and physically fit for the role
- Computer literacy (basic/intermediate level) with the ability to operate diagnostic equipment and software
- Must be available immediately
- Reside in Cape Town or the immediate surrounding areas

Working Conditions:

- Working hours: Monday to Friday, 07:30 ā€“ 17:00
- Trial period: 1ā€“2 weeks (paid), permanent appointment subject to successful completion
- Standby availability required (24/7) for call-outs and breakdown assistance
- Overtime may be required on short notice

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Diagnose and repair auto electrical faults on heavy-duty transmissions (automatic and manual)
- Install, maintain, and repair wiring, harnesses, sensors, and control systems for transmissions and vehicle electrical systems
- Operate diagnostic tools and specialised equipment for fault finding and calibration
- Perform electrical testing and inspections to ensure safety and compliance with technical standards
- Work alongside mechanics to remove, strip, and refit transmissions, ensuring all electrical systems are correctly integrated
- Conduct dyno testing and record diagnostic results accurately
- Prepare detailed job card reports on electrical work performed
- Assist with on-site breakdowns and call-outs, including testing and repairing electrical issues under pressure
- Support the collection and delivery of parts when required
Remuneration

Salary is market-related, depending on qualifications, skills, and experience.

HD Transmissions is excited to announce a vacancy for the position of a Qualified Diesel Mechanic/Technician.

The job requires the applicant to work from Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 5:00pm.

The applicant must be in good health.

It is necessary that the applicant be available immediately, permanent placement is subject to a paid trial period of 1-2 weeks. Applicant must live in Cape Town or immediate surrounding areas.

The appropriate candidate must have 3-5 years relevant experience, have clear comprehension skills (read, write and speak) in the Afrikaans and English languages. a Trade tested qualified Merseta red seal Diesel Mechanic is a requirement.

The candidate must have a valid driver's license, code 10/14 would be beneficial. Own transport is a requirement.

Candidate must have basic/intermediary computer skills to perform diagnostics.

A suitable candidate will be available for call-outs/assisting breakdowns etc. (stand by requires you to be available 24/7).

The applicant must be able to work overtime on short notice.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Performing Vehicle Services.
- Assisting fellow employees and working
in a team.
- Remove/strip Transmissions.
- Removal & Replacement of Transmissions on Heavy Duty vehicles.
- Drive and test vehicles after work has been completed (if in possession of driver's license code 10/14).
- Fault finding.
- Electrical work on Heavy Duty vehicles.
- Detailed reports on job cards.
- Dyno Testing.
- Operate diagnostic equipment.
- Collecting/delivering parts to and from
customers.
