I only learn now after 7 years in this industry, 2 years as a freelancer and have built over 200 car engines at a busy repair facility, that no matter who you are, you don’t know everything! As frustrating as it can be, I still find learning new stuff is really fun. Guess I didn’t give it enough thought as to how a mere truck could puts me back in the lane if I’m drifting.

Got a call about a 2015 E350 that has a red warning on the display "Warning. Power steering malfunction." Well the wheel is heavy and hard as crap, figured steering pump took a s**t or blew a hose. Alternator is charging and not getting hot, AC still going so it definitely isn’t a belt. Quick assumption to make.... so I opened the hood and see belts in place and no leaks...huh. Bizarre the pump just took a s**t. Let me check the level. Hmm, where the F is the reservoir??? Pulled out my laptop, opened Shopkey Pro Automotive Repair Software and says right in the diagram it's at front end accessory drive next to the compressor. But low and behold, it ain’t fu***ng there!!! Little embarrassing considering my qualifications and all, right? Little more digging and I’ve found that it has got something I had no idea it had. A
freaking "Electronic steering rack." This tech is not in trucks...at least not yet I thought.

Sorry for the long post and potential ridicule but thought it was worthwhile to share that as experienced as I think am, as simple as checking power steering fluid stumped me...
