INDUSTRIES IN BRITS CRIPPLED BY TRANSFORMER BREAKDOWN
New 20 MVA transformer purchased

BRITS POS – BRITS – The larger part of the Brits Industrial area has been without electricity since Friday, 10 May 2019, after a “fault was experienced on the back-up transformer at the De Kroon Substation,” according to Tumelo Tshabalala, spokesperson for Madibeng Local Municipality.
According to Tshabalala, efforts were made to repair the transformer on site, however it was discovered that the damages were too severe and it has been sent for repairs. In an effort to restore power to the Brits Industrial Area as soon as possible, the municipality opted to purchase a new 20 MVA transformer.
“The new transformer is scheduled to be installed and commissioned by the end of the week,” says Tshabalala.
The municipality met with representatives of the affected organisations on Tuesday morning and briefed them on the development.
