A LITTLE PAINTWORK ON THE ’45 SOLO… 🎨

Last week it was my turn to spend some time on the 45 Solo, getting the paintwork and lettering done to the customer’s brief.

And yes… that little intro took me FIVE TAKES. 😂😂Being in front of the camera is NOT my favourite place to be? HAHAHA! Give me a airbrush and I'll happily stay on the other side of it!

Anyway… back to the important stuff. 🎨

The customer’s choice was classic and understated — Birch White with black and gold lettering.

The black lettering was airbrushed, followed by gold leaf, laid by hand to bring the design to life.

In the video you’ll see a little of the process — thankfully sped up, because gold leaf is definitely NOT quite that quick in real life 😂 — before the parts head back into the paintshop where Wayne gets the clear coat on.

There’s something about the combination of Birch White, black and real gold leaf that just works beautifully on an old Harley.

We like to show the difference between showing a finished tank and actually showing the craftsmanship behind it.

Now we get to see it all come together on the bike…

THE CX500 CAFÉ RACER — HOW DID THE TEST RIDE GO? 🏍️💨

After all the work, all the little details and all the “we’re nearly there” moments… the CX500 finally got out on the road.

So — how did she actually ride?

Fresh from the test ride, Wayne sits down in the workshop to give us his thoughts on how the CX500 performed, what he’s happy with and, because apparently a custom bike is NEVER quite finished 😂, the few things he still wants to sort out.

And of course, we couldn’t talk about the test ride without showing you a little bit of it…

OLD IRON KEEPS FINDING ITS WAY TO US… 👀

A while back, Wayne asked you guys to let us know if you come across any vintage motorcycles, old frames or parts that may be looking for a new home.

Well… you’ve been listening! 😄

We’ve picked up an old 1940s Big Twin frame — rusty, rough and with plenty of history behind it. At some point there were plans to turn it into a chopper, but Wayne has some other ideas for this old frame.

Then there’s our latest find — a 350 Aermacchi Sprint 4-stroke, which came our way after a customer contacted us.

This one is going to be a great little project. We’ll be documenting the whole process, showing you what we find and what we do along the way, and once she’s ready, the Aermacchi will be offered for sale.

So keep them coming!

WEEKLY WORKSHOP UPDATE 🔧

Another week in the workshop done and dusted!

Here’s a quick look at what we’ve been busy with at FREE STATE CHOPPER over the past week — a few jobs moving along, a few things ticked off the list, and of course, always something waiting for its turn on the bench.

We also take a look at what’s lined up and what we’re hoping to get stuck into over the coming week.

As always, plans in a workshop have a funny way of changing 😄 …so let’s see what this week brings!
