⚓️ The side of charter life you don’t book…. until you do. 🌴

On today’s episode of Behind the Charter: Key West…
Apparently when the boatyard asks you to move in, you move in. 😏⚓️

This industry is tough.
The economy is tough.
And sometimes opportunity shows up looking like an old shop full of somebody else’s leftovers.

So when a boatyard owner we respect asked us to move in…

Captain Tom and Norm started tearing walls apart.

On today’s episode of Behind the Charter: Key West… 🌴🎣

They came to Just A Few Friends Key West and couldn’t decide between fishing or the sandbar.

The sandbar won.

So naturally… we accidentally brought fishing poles.

Next thing you know, we’re at Snipes Point, lines are in the water, fish are being measured, and what was supposed to be a chill sandbar day has turned into a full-blown “mine is bigger than yours” tournament. 🏆

Measurements were taken.
Arguments were made.
No one was mature about it.

Just a Few Friends doing Key West exactly the way Jimmy would’ve wanted it. 🌴🌊🍹

On Today’s episode of… Welcome Aboard ONE HEART... If you can make it past the ladder. 😂

With the yacht on the hard, stepping aboard takes a little balance, a little commitment, and one very unglamorous climb.

Inside, ONE HEART is in full repair mode: floors ripped up, engines exposed, the generator within reach, and seawater lines being replaced to keep the yacht’s water-cooled A/C system running smoothly.

But here’s the question: who do you call when a yacht this size needs this much work?

Because getting ONE HEART back in shape takes more than a ladder and a toolbox. It takes a skilled team behind the scenes and Captain Tom is about to show you exactly who’s making it happen.

Real boats. Real repairs. Real Key West.

On today’s episode of… WHAT’S HIDING UNDER THE BOTTOM PAINT? 👀⚓️

Captain Tom walks the hull of ONE HEART and shows what gets uncovered during haul-out. The old transducer holes, “weeping” spots, fiberglass repairs, sanding, priming, plus the port transmission out of the boat and being rebuilt.

And yes, at one point he explains filler as “peanut butter.” 😂

Also starring: the unofficial soundtrack of Key West… ROOSTERS. 🐓

Sanding dust, old holes, transmissions, peanut butter and roosters.

Tomorrow, we’re going inside. 👀

Today’s episode of: Measure Twice, Drill Once. 😳⚓️

Today ONE HEART is getting a new Garmin GT51M-TH thru-hull transducer.
Apparently the first step to better technology is intentionally drilling a hole through the bottom of your boat. 😂

This little piece of equipment is basically ONE HEART’s underwater eyes.

It gives us traditional CHIRP sonar for depth and targets below us, ClearVü for a much more detailed picture underneath the boat, and SideVü so we can actually scan out to either side of the boat and see structure and what’s happening underwater around us.

But there’s a catch.

ONE HEART’s bottom isn’t flat. Her hull has about an 18° angle, so Norm has to cut and fit the thru-hull setup to compensate for that angle so the transducer sits correctly in the water.

For reference, this Garmin is designed for hull deadrise angles up to 25°.

And yes… the next thing you see is Captain Tom standing underneath ONE HEART while the drill bit comes THROUGH the hull. 😳

According to Norm, if he cuts the angle wrong, we’ll just turn it around and drive backwards.

Captain Tom:
“At least that’ll be negative knots.” 😂

For the boat nerds: Garmin GT51M-TH — Mid-CHIRP, ClearVü, SideVü, water temperature, traditional sonar rated to roughly 1,800 feet.

Completely intentional.

Still mildly horrifying to watch. 😂⚓️

🇧🇸 Good Morning, Crew.
We made an early fuel stop here before pointing the bow toward home, and this sunrise deserved its own moment.

Now the question is… do you recognize where we are?

For now, just enjoy the sunrise with us. ⚓️

Hogfish Bar & Grill and Roostica aren’t just restaurants we recommend, they’re basically our backyard. They’re the places we send our guests, take our friends and family, and somehow always end up back at ourselves.

And this is exactly why.

There’s so much history tucked into Stock Island that most visitors never realize they’re sitting right in the middle of. Jimmy Buffett, the Coral Reefers, old Key West, working waterfronts, shrimp boats, musicians, locals and decades of stories… all connected to the same picnic tables and places many of you have already visited while staying with us.

So for everyone who has stayed aboard with us before: you know. ❤️

And if it’s been a while since you’ve been down here, consider this your sign to come back, grab a Hogfish sandwich, order a pizza at Roostica, sit by the water and experience this side of Key West all over again.

Because sometimes the best parts of Key West aren’t on Duval.

They’re right here in our backyard.

Read this story. It’s a good one. 👇

After all that history… obviously we had to go explore it. 🇧🇸

So apparently… Leaf Cay is for sale again. 🏝️

Asking price: $15.9 MILLION.

14 private acres in the Exumas.
Three beaches.
A runway.
A huge private dock.
Main house + guest house.
And power running under water from Staniel Cay.

After spending several days here, this one feels a little different.

This is the island you’ve been watching us explore in the last three videos and now somebody can actually buy the whole thing.

$15.9 million. Are you buying it? 😂🏝️

And if you did… what’s the FIRST thing you’d change?

We jet skied over to an island in the Exumas… and found THIS. 🍾👀

An actual message in a bottle.

Of course we opened it. 😂

Now the bigger question…

Do you think Facebook can help us find the people who left it?
