Things are now deteriorating, with melt turning to freeze. We have received multiple calls near Birtle, and do not expect conditions to be favorable.

Parts of highways 1, 8, 9, 48, and 308 are closed in southeast Saskatchewan as another blizzard hits southeast Saskatchewan and southwest Manitoba. The highways marked red are closed, those marked white are travel not recommended.

In anticipation of the upcoming storm, Manitoba RCMP has decided to close all major highways in southern Manitoba around midnight tonight or when it begins to snow.

Please be advised that travel is strongly discouraged and that alternate plans should be arranged.

If you do decide to travel, please be warned that first responders may not be able to get to you if you become stranded or need assistance.

-Fill your gas tank NOW
-Dress for the weather (with a change of clothes)
-Pack a shovel

While prices are sky rocketing with global influence on domestic product, and our all mighty toonie devaluing to just a loonie due to inflation, it may be tempting to skimp on filling the fuel tank.

While it is nice to feel the win of chasing the lowest pump price, the risk of repercussion increases too.

The general inconvenience of running out of fuel is just the beginning. Showing up late for work, spoiling the groceries from your shopping trip, or having your car vandalized while you are sourcing a fuel jug can be quite costly. How about having to replace your clogged fuel filter, or fuel pump from constantly running the tank low?

All these unfortunate events could result in having to pay for a tow if the vehicle needs to go to a shop, or removed from the space it is occupying.

Are you really saving money by running your fuel tank low?
