WHEN A DPF DOESN’T REGENERATE… THIS IS WHAT CAN HAPPEN! 😳🔥

This DPF didn’t just block up - it failed catastrophically.

Severe soot and ash loading, combined with repeated unsuccessful regeneration attempts, has caused the internal filter substrate to break down and literally blow apart inside the housing.

Once a DPF reaches this stage, a forced regen isn’t going to save it. Continuing to drive can lead to increased exhaust backpressure, loss of power, excessive temperatures and potentially further engine or turbo damage.

Toyota Hiace was brought into the workshop after the customer noticed frequent DPF regeneration cycles. The vehicle was attempting premature DPF burns but was unable to complete them successfully, leading to ongoing regeneration requests and reduced engine efficiency.
After carrying out a full diagnostic assessment and live data analysis, we traced the fault to a blocked 5th injector. The 5th injector is responsible for supplying fuel during the DPF regeneration process. With the injector restricted, the exhaust temperature could not reach the level required for a complete burn, causing repeated failed regeneration attempts and excessive soot loading.
The blockage was rectified, the DPF system was tested, and a successful regeneration was completed. Final testing confirmed the DPF system was operating correctly, with normal regeneration intervals restored.
If your diesel vehicle is carrying out frequent DPF burns, has a DPF warning light, or seems to be constantly trying to regenerate, it's best to have it diagnosed early. Catching the problem before the DPF becomes fully blocked can save you from much more expensive repairs.

Fuso Rosa came in with a blocked DPF after spending extended periods idling. Excessive idle time prevents the exhaust from reaching temperatures high enough to burn off soot, causing the filter to gradually block. After testing and cleaning, the DPF is ready to go back into service and keep this bus running efficiently.

We don’t just work on cars and 4x4s - we cater for all vehicle emission systems.

Here we’re disassembling the DPF from a UD truck and separating the Diesel Particulate Filter from the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC).

Both components will go through a series of tests before cleaning to ensure the correct process is carried out and the system is returned to proper operating condition.

Keeping emission systems operating efficiently helps maintain performance, fuel economy, and reliability while reducing costly downtime.

It’s been a while since our last post…
Not because REGEN-NT slowed down, quite the opposite.

Over the past 12+ months we’ve been flat out behind the scenes helping workshops, fleets, contractors, and diesel owners keep their vehicles operating properly and efficiently.

From DPF cleaning and diagnostics to EGR/intake servicing and emissions fault rectification, we’ve continued investing in the equipment, processes, and knowledge required to do the job properly.

One thing that hasn’t changed: We do NOT remove or disable emissions systems.
We focus on compliant repairs, cleaning, diagnostics, and long-term reliability.

We’ll be sharing more jobs, technical content, before/afters, and fleet support work again soon.

Thanks to everyone who has continued supporting REGEN-NT while we’ve been busy turning spanners instead of posting online.
