First introduced in 1968 for the Japanese home market, the CD50 commuter motorcycle was soon popular around the world, the earlier models had chrome side panels on the fuel tanks, and were perhaps the prettiest with those beautifully made plastic Honda Wing tank badges. The overhead cam 5.2PS @ 10200rpm engine gave a good turn of speed, important for city commuting allowing a smooth transition int

o the main flow of traffic, while the four speed box allowed this peppy engine to stay on the boil. The CD part of the name was given to all Honda’s that were designed for commuting or touring during the 1960’s and early 1970’s. The CD50, also known as the Benly in Japan was produced almost unchanged, apart from a few styling tweaks well into the new Century, with some limited edition models selling out very quickly to collectors and investors inside Japan.
