In the heart of bustling Hanoi, Hoa Lo Prison still stands quietly — a powerful witness to some of the most painful yet resilient chapters of Vietnam’s history.

As you walk through its gates, you may find yourself falling silent.

The old stone walls, the cold iron bars, the cramped cells… seem to whisper stories of those who were once imprisoned here.

They lost their freedom.
They endured hardship, deprivation, and danger.

A little over an hour with a needle and thread became one of the most memorable experiences in Tam Coc, Ninh Binh.

Under the guidance of local artisans, our guests learned the traditional art of Vietnamese embroidery and created their own handkerchiefs stitch by stitch. Every piece was unique, reflecting each person's creativity and patience.

More than just a handicraft workshop, this was an opportunity to slow down, connect with local culture, and discover a traditional craft that has been preserved for generations.

Each finished handkerchief became more than a souvenir—it became a personal memory of Ninh Binh, handmade with care.

Sapa is entering its most beautiful season, and this is one of my favorite 2-day, 1-night itineraries to discover Ta Van Village – a peaceful destination that still preserves the authentic beauty of Muong Hoa Valley.

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1

Check in at Cau May (Rattan Bridge), a charming wooden bridge spanning the Muong Hoa Stream.
Take a leisurely walk along the quiet village paths surrounded by the iconic terraced rice fields of Ta Van.
Relax at cafés overlooking the valley, such as:
Ta Van View Coffee
Viettrekking Ta Van
Lá Dao Spa & Coffee (if you're staying nearby)
Visit the traditional villages of the Giay and Hmong ethnic communities and admire their distinctive wooden houses.
