Our first year giving out the Tom Giura Memorial Future Mechanic Scholarship in honor my father. Five years ago we began the daily walk of running a business in my father's shoes. We have learned the importance of good mechanics in our community (and what a great mechanic my father was) and this is why we decided to offer this scholarship. My sisters and brother and I chose a young man that presented many qualities of my father. In his essay, he spoke of his future plans and his excitement to start working. He attends Girard HS and Trumbull County Career and Technical in the auto tech program. This young man is amazing and we have no doubt he will be a great technician.

What stuck out the most to me when we presented him this award is what he said to my aunt and I. He was thrilled to have won, but he felt bad for the others in his program that applied and didn't win. He said he definetly needed this but others did too. It touched my heart and I knew we had chosen the right person to honor my father.

Anthony chose the $1000 reward of tools. He will be presented with his tools later this month.

We hope to continue this every year and maybe find a way to give out more scholarships. We need more qualified mechanics in the valley. My father did so much for so many people, so there is no better way for us to honor him than for him to continue to give to others.
