Did you know WPI has been researching the trends?

Here's What We Know, according to article in Bar Harbor Story:
"It was estimated that half of all bikes in the park were e-bikes.

The park has done assessments with Worcester Polytechnic Institute that determined that e-bikes were going 12 mph while traditional bicycles were going 11.

“They’re actually not going that much faster,” Schneider said.

“It’s very good for people with mobility problems,” LaRochelle told Trotter. “It’s magical, because I can do something with my husband.”"

If you ride, please mind the speed limit of 20 mph. Slow down and enjoy the views.

We can't not mention South Park's e-bike episode.

Satire highlights stereotypes. We know not all e-bikers ride dangerously. We know not all cyclists wear spandex.

Exaggeration highlight truths: "The behavior of the worst riders becomes representative of every rider. And instead of targeting dangerous behavior, inappropriate vehicles, or unsafe equipment, the easiest political solution is simply getting rid of the thing everyone has decided is the problem."

The truth is e-bikes offer freedom, independence, and fun physical activity.

There is a spectrum of e-bike riders out there, who are using electric-assist devices for a variety of reasons.

Many Wicked Wheels customers are over the age of 65 and pedal e-bikes that blend in with traditional bicycles. You don't see them in this episode. And you may not notice them on the trails because "someone riding responsibly isn’t particularly memorable. "

We advocate for rider education. For rider rights. For regulating devices that operate outside established electric bicycle classifications. For the enforcement of existing laws for all road users, especially speed of cars on the road and distracted driving. Better behavior for all will make the roads safer for us all.
