For your Safety check your car brakes!

Making sure your brakes are working to their maximum capacity is important any time of the year, but it is especially important during the winter months. You need to be able to stop more effectively and counteract poor weather. So how can you make sure your brakes are ready for winter weather? Here, we give you some information about what you can do to ensure that your brakes are ready for snow.

🚘Brake Pads

Brake pads are, possibly, the most important part of the entire braking system. They’re the part of your braking system that actually does the stopping. It’s hard to tell when the brake pads are going, so, unless you want to take your car into a shop for a check-up, you should try to be aware of the following:

🚘Squealing

Brakes squeak when they get wet fairly often, but if it’s happening a lot, this is a sure indication that the brake pads need to be replaced.

🚘Strange Braking Sensations

If your brakes feel thicker or you’re noticing that it feels a bit more difficult to stop, your brakes may be fairly deteriorated. You should check your pads if you notice anything off with your brakes.

🚘Car Favoring One Side

If you feel like your car is braking unevenly and favoring one side, it’s likely that the brakes were worn unevenly. This should be inspected, as a situation such as this can make braking even more difficult.

🚘Brake Fluid.

If brake pads are the most important part of the braking mechanism, brake fluid follows closely in second place. Brake fluid is used for the transfer of force into pressure and as a way to amplify the overall braking force. Making sure you have enough brake fluid to make your car stop quickly and effectively during the winter months is essential to safely traverse winter weather.

To check the brake fluid level, find the brake master cylinder under the hood of your car, and open it. Assure that your brake fluids are in between the minimum and maximum fill lines. If the level is looking low, make sure to fill it up — this could also mean that you have a brake line issue where brake fluid is leaking, so make sure to check them as well.
