Here are three things I’ve learned in the hail repair industry:

1. Many local body shops use out-of-town PDR technicians.

This surprises a lot of people, but it’s completely normal.

After a major hailstorm, local PDR technicians can only repair so many vehicles. To keep up with demand, many body shops bring in experienced technicians from other areas to help. It’s simply how the industry handles large storm events.

2. The biggest challenge after a hailstorm is volume.

When an area gets hit hard, hundreds—or even thousands—of vehicles need repairs at the same time.

That often means body shops are booked months out, sometimes just for estimates. I see it happen year after year. It’s not because they’re doing anything wrong—it’s because the demand is overwhelming.

3. It’s okay to be cautious about out-of-town companies.

Not every company has the best intentions. Some are only looking to make a quick dollar and move on.

That’s why it’s so important to do your research before choosing who repairs your vehicle. Read reviews, ask questions, look at previous work, and make sure the company stands behind its repairs.

The truth is, you’re not limited to using only a local company. You have the right to choose the repair facility that you feel is the best fit for your vehicle, whether that’s a trusted local business or a reputable company from out of town. The key isn’t where they’re based—it’s their reputation, experience, and the quality of their work.
