How to maintain your Cars Value.
1. Interior/Exterior
Wash the exterior of your car regularly. Especially in winter. This helps to remove harmful road salts. Wax your cars exterior every few months to maintain a layer of protection for the paint.
Invest in seat covers to protect against wear and tear, especially on the driver's side.
Vacuum out the interior on a regular basis to prevent dirt from being ground into the carpet.
Apply a spray protector to the dash, doors and all hard plastic surfaces. If you have leather, use a high quality conditioner on the seats and other leather surfaces to prevent cracking.
2. Maintenance
Regularly change your oil. If synthetic, don't go beyond 5,000 miles. If regular oil, change at 3,000 miles.
Do this consistently. Consider this a requirement to keeping your car in "good health." A cars oil is like the blood in our bodies, it's essential and needs to be filtered properly. Over time the oil collects contaminants and the filter is less functional. Change your oil on time and you will save yourself hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.
Save receipts from all services done on the car. This includes tune ups, oil changes, tire rotation and any work done on the car by a mechanic. This will help you prove to the potential buyer that you have regularly serviced your vehicle. This goes a long way towards getting your asking price.
3. Helpful Pointers
If your driveway has pine trees or other trees that are high in sap, park away from them. Sap is extremely hard to get off of car surfaces after it has been sitting for a time.
When shopping, park away from other cars. Many people misjudge the distance between their car and yours. This can lead to scratches and dings. Also, cars with 2 doors/coupes have doors that are longer than 4 door cars. By parking away from others, you also avoid backing into someone by accident because you couldn't see them. It gives you, and others a clear line of sight.
Hopefully, these points will save you time and money!
