đź’Ş Fight Back: Share Proof of Steering Like This With the IGA
Auto glass shops across the country are feeling the effects of steering every single day. But here’s the thing: it’s not just happening over the phone anymore—it’s happening silently, digitally, and automatically.
Take a look at the screenshot above from Progressive’s claims app. The customer, who has a $1,000 deductible, is prompted to schedule directly with Safelite. No warning. No mention of alternatives. No note that they can legally use the shop of their choice.
This is steering—just with a modern interface.
Here’s What’s Happening
Many insurers, through third-party administrators (TPAs) like Safelite Solutions, are quietly funneling work away from independent shops like yours. Whether it’s through apps, scripted call center conversations, or misleading “cost concerns,” these tactics rob consumers of choice—and rob you of business.
Some states require that insurers clearly state a consumer's right to choose their own glass repair provider. Yet time and time again, they don’t. And it’s getting worse.
We can’t take legal or legislative action without real-world evidence. That’s where YOU come in.
We Need You to Share Evidence
⚠️ If you’ve had a customer show you their phone or app interface that looks like the one above—send it to us.
⚠️If you’ve recorded a call (with consent or from the customer) that includes misleading or coercive language—send it to us.
⚠️If you’ve received an email or letter from a TPA discouraging the use of your shop—send it to us.
These documents are critical. They help the Independent Glass Association (IGA) build cases, educate lawmakers, and push regulators to enforce anti-steering laws already on the books.**
How to Submit Your Evidence
👉 Email: [email protected]
👉 Subject Line: **“Steering Evidence Submission”**
👉 Include:
- Screenshots (from customer phones or claims portals)
- Call recordings (if available and legal in your state)
- Customer testimonials or statements
- Any documentation that shows an insurer or TPA failed to disclose choice—or discouraged your shop specifically
We handle all submissions confidentially and can redact identifying info if needed.
Why This Matters
This isn’t just about one job. It’s about hundreds—thousands—of repairs being siphoned away under the guise of convenience and “policy compliance.”
When shops stay quiet, these practices go unchecked. When we speak up together, regulators start paying attention. Legislators take interest. The media gets involved. That’s how change happens.
Let’s make some noise. Let’s shine a light on steering—digital or otherwise.
Your evidence could be the tipping point. Send it to the IGA today!
