Every time it gets this cold, we see the same thing:
“It was starting fine yesterday.”

Cold weather is hard on batteries and charging systems. A weak battery or borderline alternator can hide for months, then fail the moment temperatures drop.

If your car:
• Cranks slower than it used to
• Needs a jump when it’s cold
• Has a battery over 3–4 years old

It’s worth having it checked before the next freeze.

Tech tip: Factory maintenance schedules are often designed to align with warranty coverage — not necessarily long-term ownership.

For the first few years, that approach usually works just fine. But as vehicles age, driving conditions, usage patterns, and component wear start to matter more than what’s printed in the book. Too many manufacturers skip a transmission service altogether now, calling it 'lifetime fill' instead.

In many cases, following the minimum factory schedule beyond the warranty period can lead to increased wear, reduced reliability, and expensive repairs that could have been avoided with more proactive maintenance.

At OTP Automotive, we look beyond the factory interval and consider mileage, age, usage, and known platform-specific issues when making maintenance recommendations.

The goal isn’t to sell more services — it’s to help customers keep their vehicles reliable and predictable long-term.

🌨️ Weekend Winter Storm Alert 🌨️

North Georgia is under a Winter Storm Watch this weekend through Monday morning. Forecasts are calling for freezing rain, sleet, ice accumulation, and possible snow, with ice being the primary concern. Even light icing can cause power outages and dangerous conditions 🧊⚠️

🏠 If you’re at home, please plan ahead:

• Make sure you have reliable heat, blankets, and warm clothing
• Charge phones and battery packs ahead of time
• Keep flashlights ready (avoid candles) 🔦
• Let faucets drip if temps drop significantly to help prevent frozen pipes
• Check on elderly neighbors or anyone without dependable heat ❤️

Weather conditions may affect operations. Please call us Monday morning before heading in to confirm we’re open and able to operate safely. Ideally we will be available, but if it's too dangerous for our employees to be on the roads, it's probably too dangerous for you to be on the roads as well.

Car Care Tip: Coolant Doesn’t Just “Disappear”

If you’re adding coolant but don’t see a leak on the ground, something’s still going on.

Start by checking for obvious wetness yourself. Do not open a hot radiator cap — serious burns can happen fast. If you don’t see any clear signs of a leak, that doesn’t mean everything’s fine. Many coolant leaks are hidden, or burn off once the engine gets hot.

Tip: If your coolant level drops between oil changes and you can’t find a leak, it’s time to have it looked over by a professional before it turns into an overheating problem — potentially leaving you stranded or causing major engine damage.
