At Mike's Memorial service, we learned of his extraordinary life since his motorcycle accident, which occurred over 20 years ago. Mike suffered a traumatic brain injury, that required him to live in rehabilitation and long term care facilities since 1989. Once a year since 2003, Mike spent one week at Camp Wilderness Endeavor sponsored by the Brain Injury Association of Illinois(BIA). The BIA is a
not-for-profit, statewide membership organization comprised of people with brain injuries, family members, friends and professionals. The BIA is a subsidiary of the national Brain Injury Association, Inc. and is the only organization in Illinois serving individuals with TBI, their families and professionals who treat them. Camp Wilderness Endeavor is located on a lake in Central Illinois. Mike stayed overnight in a wood burning cabin and participated in: horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, archery, arts & crafts, sing-a-longs and much more! The week at camp gave Mike a much needed break from his normal routine and allowed him to participate in fun activities free of his wheelchair. Mike's personality truly came to life at camp. Sunshine" for his encouraging, happy and fun nature. Many more individuals could benefit from going to camp, but don't have the financial resources to do so. As a way to honor Mike's life and memory, RememberMike.org will encourage fundraising events to help send more people to camp. Philicia Deckard, Executive Director of the BIA of Illinois, had known Mike since 1990 and spoke at his Memorial service. Cash donations can be made by check payable to: Brain Injury Association of Illinois. Thank you for your support and for remembering Mike!
