Farewell to Bing the Missile Silo Dog
It is with a heavy heart that I'm sharing the loss of Bing, a German Short-haired Pointer who wandered into my life at the Atlas Ad Astra Missile Silo Adventure Resort four years ago. A spirited stray who I found out later, belonged to a friends parents, he went from a outdoor farmdog, to a indoor dog & friend, living with me & Buddy.
Bing was a true hunter at heart, roaming the 24 acres of our Kansas property with boundless energy alongside his friend, Buddy, who we sadly lost last year. Their daily hikes through the trails, chasing scents and exploring, were a testament to their love for adventure. Bing brought warmth to my underground home, curling up after a day of exploration, his gentle spirit filling our lives with love.
This year, Bing faced a tough battle with cancer in his leg. Despite medication to ease his pain, his strength faded. When he could no longer stand, refused his favorite steak leftovers, and struggled even to relieve himself, I knew it was time to say goodbye. Estimated to be about 14 years old, Bing lived a full, vibrant life, and I held him close as I let him go.
Although, as I say goodbye to Bing I'm grateful for my new rescue, Dozer, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, who is taking on the role of the friendly Missile Silo Dog!
For all of my guests who met him, he will forever mark our hearts and the trails of Atlas Ad Astra. To our guests and community, thank you for sharing in the joy Bing brought to our resort. His spirit will live on in every hike, every sunset by the firepit, and every moment we share at AtlasAdAstra.com.
Rest easy, Bing. You were one of a kind, and we’ll miss you always.
