Porsche Spent Three Years Building A Bespoke 911 GT2 RS For One Person, The Rest of Us Just Have to Look At It

The Porsche Sonderwunsch program exists to build things that should not exist. This is one of them. The 911 GT2 Flachbau RS is a 991.2 GT2 RS that has been transformed over three years into a modern interpretation of the 935/78 Le Mans racer, the one Porsche mechanics nicknamed Moby Dick for reasons that become obvious the moment you see that long, flat nose. Porsche's own engineers, Porsche Motorsport, Weissach, and Manthey all contributed. One customer ordered it.

The powertrain is untouched by choice. The same twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six producing 700 hp and 553 lb-ft through a seven-speed PDK to the rear wheels. The customer specifically requested no changes to the engine, which is either admirable restraint or confidence that 700 hp is already enough. Everything else on this car changed.

The front end is where the engineering story begins. Completely redesigned front fenders carry slatted louvers that actively vent air pressure out of the wheel arches. On a car running wide tires at over 200 mph, trapped air pressure in the wheel arch generates aerodynamic lift at the front axle, which is the last thing you want when you are also generating 1,221 pounds of downforce at the rear. The louvers manage that pressure differential. The front bumper carries aerodynamic canards developed by Manthey, and the headlights are now three stacked LED elements, each less than 1.5 inches tall, replacing the standard round units entirely. The flatter, lower headlight profile is what makes the slantnose geometry work aerodynamically and maintain road legality simultaneously.

The rear wing is the other major engineering piece. S-shaped mounts inspired by the 911 GT3 R Rennsport hold the wing nearly two inches higher than the corresponding unit on a Manthey Kit GT2 RS. Three manually adjustable positions allow the driver to set downforce level before going out, with the High Downforce position generating 1,221 pounds of rear axle load at the 211 mph track top speed. That is 2 to 3 percent more rear downforce than a GT2 RS with the full Manthey Kit already fitted. A Gurney flap, front splitter, revised underbody, rear diffuser, and carbon-fiber aero discs on the rear wheels complete the package. The discs reduce aerodynamic drag at the rear corners by managing airflow around the rotating wheel rather than letting it turbulate freely.

The 70-pound weight saving over the already stripped GT2 RS Weissach Package came from a straightforward but thorough interior removal: Porsche Communication Management system out, audio system out, sound insulation out, floor coverings out. A leather-trimmed storage compartment replaces the entire PCM unit.

From the bay, the 991.2 GT2 RS base is a demanding service platform before Sonderwunsch touches anything. The 3.8-liter twin-turbo runs two water-cooled turbochargers with their own intercooler circuits, and the PDK on this application handles torque loads at the upper boundary of what dual-clutch transmissions manage on road cars. Standard service intervals on the GT2 RS platform include differential fluid, PDK fluid, and brake fluid replacement on a more aggressive schedule than a standard 911 because of how the car is used. The slatted fender louvers change the airflow path to the brake ducts compared to a standard GT2 RS, meaning brake thermal management will behave differently and documented baseline temperatures may not transfer directly from standard platform data. The wing's S-mount geometry places load on the rear deck at a different angle than the production wing, which means any structural inspection of the rear bodywork needs to account for that load path specifically. And the PCM deletion means the first time this car sees a diagnostic scanner, the shop needs to know in advance which modules are intentionally absent rather than reading absent module codes as faults.

Porsche wing-tested the rear unit to loads equivalent to 93,200 miles of customer use before the car ever turned a wheel publicly. That is the level of engineering behind a car that cost one person a number Porsche still will not confirm.

2027 Lamborghini Revuelto SV: The Most Exotic Hybrid Lambo Yet

The Revuelto SV is the most powerful production Lamborghini ever made. 1,050 hp and 1,051 lb-ft of torque from the same 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 and triple electric motor architecture as the standard Revuelto, but most of that 49 hp gain did not come from the combustion engine. It came from the battery. Lamborghini nearly doubled the high-voltage pack from 3.8 kWh to 7.0 kWh, and that single change is responsible for the majority of the power jump. The V12 itself is carried over, still screaming toward its redline through an eight-speed dual-clutch, still making that sound. It now has considerably more electrical muscle backing it up.

The aerodynamic package is where Lamborghini spent serious development time. A fixed rear wing replaces the active unit on the standard car, running a double-plane design at the outer sections to maximize downforce load while the single-plane center section preserves aerodynamic efficiency through the middle of the car. A Gurney flap contributes downforce at the trailing edge and simultaneously draws air across the rear radiator to cool the V12 at track pace. Up front, a fin running across the bumper and aligning with the upper headlight edge channels airflow directly to the brake ducts, with Lamborghini claiming 12 percent improved brake cooling as a result. A more pronounced front splitter completes the package. Total result: 80 percent more downforce than the standard Revuelto, 60 percent better downforce-to-drag efficiency, and 10 percent more downforce than the Aventador SVJ, which was already an extreme machine. Lamborghini quotes 2.4 seconds to 62 mph and 6.7 seconds to 124 mph, with a top speed exceeding 214 mph.

The suspension derives directly from Lamborghini's GT3 racing program: manually adjustable dampers with a claimed 10 percent increase in lateral grip versus the standard car. Manually adjustable means the driver or engineer physically sets the damper rates rather than relying on an electronic control system to manage them in real time. That is a deliberate choice for track use, prioritizing predictability and driver feel over automatic adaptation. Braking is handled by Brembo's CCM-R Plus carbon-ceramic system, with 16.5-inch front discs and 16.1-inch rear discs. Lamborghini specifies that these require no warm-up phase before delivering consistent, repeatable stopping performance. Centerlock wheels carry Bridgestone Potenza Race R tires. A new Pilota drive mode sits above Corsa in the hierarchy, offering a five-stage traction control system tuned from GT3 data and allowing more granular configuration than any previous Lamborghini road car.

From the bay, the 7.0 kWh high-voltage battery is where the service conversation starts. That is nearly double the electrical energy of the standard Revuelto's system, which means a significantly larger HV architecture to isolate, discharge, and manage before any adjacent work begins. The triple motor layout, one integrated unit per front wheel plus one rear motor sharing the axle with the V12, means three separate inverters and three motor control units communicating with the combustion management system simultaneously. If any part of that network faults, diagnosis requires software access to the full powertrain control architecture, not just a generic OBD scan. The naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 at higher mileage will eventually need valve clearance inspection across all twelve cylinders, and accessing the cam carriers on a mid-engine Lamborghini is a labor-intensive procedure before a single measurement is taken. The GT3-derived manually adjustable dampers are not passive units you set by feel. Adjustment verification requires procedure-specific tooling and documentation to confirm the car is actually sitting at the intended rates. CCM-R Plus brake service demands high-temperature fluid meeting at minimum DOT 4 Class 6 equivalent specifications, pad compounds matched to the operating temperature window these discs run in, and a proper bedding sequence regardless of Lamborghini's no-warm-up claim for track use. The centerlock wheel torque procedure is its own service step. At a price expected to exceed $700,000, every single one of these jobs needs factory documentation from the first time it is touched.

The SV name has appeared on the Miura, the Murciélago, and the Aventador. Lamborghini has never put it on anything that was not completely serious. This one is no different.

Ford Made a 795 HP Mustang Convertible

The 2027 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible is real, it is arriving in spring 2027, and it carries the full 795 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque from the 5.2-liter supercharged Predator V8 without losing a single horsepower in the transition from coupe to ragtop. For context, that is 133 hp and 29 lb-ft more than the 5.8-liter supercharged Trinity V8 in the old GT500 convertible. The seven-speed dual-clutch automatic carries over unchanged, and there is still no manual option.

The Predator V8 is the same unit across both body styles, but the car around it is deliberately softer. Springs and stabilizer bars are both tuned down compared to the coupe, with Ford staying quiet on specific rates, and the MagneRide adaptive suspension is reprogrammed to match the recalibrated hardware. MagneRide uses magnetorheological fluid in each damper, with iron particles that align under an electromagnetic field to vary damping stiffness in milliseconds. Reprogramming it means the system's control maps now prioritize ride compliance and body motion management over flat, track-focused damping response. The wheels and tires match the SC coupe fitted without the Track Package, and the carbon ceramic brake option is not available on the convertible at all. Standard steel rotors only.

The structural solution for removing the roof is a magnesium brace connecting the two front shock towers to the firewall. Magnesium rather than aluminum because it offers a better stiffness-to-weight ratio for a brace that needs to compensate for the torsional rigidity the fixed roof previously provided. The aerodynamic package also required reworking. The convertible uses a unique decklid, which meant unique rear wing mounts. The wing shape carries over but the Gurney flap is deleted. Up front, the hood louvers got revised trailing edges, slightly closed up to account for the different airflow pattern off the folding roof versus a fixed coupe roofline. These are not cosmetic changes; front-to-rear aero balance on a car making this much power at track speeds requires the two ends to work as a matched system.

From the bay, the Predator V8's supercharger circuit is the first maintenance story on these cars. The TVS supercharger uses a dedicated intercooler coolant loop separate from the engine's primary cooling system, with its own heat exchanger and pump. Keeping that circuit clean and the coolant fresh matters on a car that will see hard use. Supercharger belt and snout bearing condition is the other interval item that experienced Shelby shops already know from the GT500 population. The MagneRide system requires specific magnetorheological fluid and, critically, software calibration any time a damper is replaced, because the control module needs to learn the new unit's response characteristics. Swapping a leaking damper without recalibrating leaves the system operating on incorrect parameters for that corner. The magnesium shock tower brace introduces a material that needs specific corrosion treatment considerations and cannot be repaired with standard MIG welding if it takes damage. And the convertible chassis, with its inherently more flexible open structure, means any suspension geometry work needs to account for slightly different load paths than the coupe when verifying alignment specs.

Expected to land north of $115,000 when order books open this fall. The coupe starts at $108,085. The top goes down. So, slightly, does the lap time.
