🚨Statewide KAVIS Outage🚨

We have been notified today, September 4th, 2026, that the State’s Motor Vehicle System is not integrating motor vehicle taxes properly. At this time, we cannot process any vehicle renewals or transfers until the system is operating correctly where taxes are properly integrated.

Once the system is operational, we will update this post. Additionally, once the problem has been corrected, you can renew your vehicles online at drive.ky.gov if needed.

It’s Records Wednesday!

As the keeper and stewards of Grant County Government Documents dating back to 1820, our office has been working to inventory, consolidate and organize the thousands of documents that are kept within our office. As such, we believe that these documents, and more specifically, the information found therein, should be made available to the citizens of Grant County.

The pictured document is likely the oldest document in the History of Grant County, other than the Bill that created it. The pictured photo is the Appointment of the first seven Justices of the Peace by the Acting Governor, Gabriel Slaughter, which was signed just 3 days after “An Act for the Division of Pendleton County” was passed. The appointed Justices of the Peace were:

Jediah Ashcraft, William Layton, Samuel Simpson, Nathaniel Henderson, John Sipple, William Woodyard, and Benjamin McFarland.

These appointed Justices met for the first time at the House of Henry Childers on the Dry Ridge Road on April 10th, 1820, which formed the first Grant County Court.

We were thrilled to re-discover this document and are happy that we can share it with you!
