Did you know you can ceramic coat more than just the paint?

Quick shop walk. Been talking PPF for weeks, so back to coatings. Five cars in this week and not one of them is getting the same thing.

One's back for its yearly maintenance (with a little paintless dent repair first so we're not coating over a dent). Two are getting polished and coated on the paint, wheels and windshield. The BMW is getting CarPro Finest Reserve: wheels off, coating on the faces and barrels, every painted panel, and all the glass. And there's a Tesla hiding in the back getting coated all the way around.

Here's the part most people miss. A coating isn't one thing you buy or don't buy. It's a choice about which surfaces you want protected from what Florida does to a car. Wheels take brake dust and heat. Glass takes the rain. Paint takes the sun, and the sun wins every time if nothing's on it.

The best part of this install is the part you can't see.

Brand new Dark Horse. Paint this deep is a mirror on every panel, which means film has nowhere to hide — and neither does any place the work stopped short.

So look at the badges. Both of them, front fender and decklid. There's no cut line around either one, no ring, no gap. That's because they aren't sitting on top of the film. They came off the car, the film went down underneath, and they went back on.

Same with the door handles. Same with the gas cap.

Swipe through and you won't see anything at those spots. That's the point. A part that comes off means there is no edge there at all — and an edge is the only thing that ever fails. Leave one sitting on the paint and it's a ledge: dirt packs into it, wash water works under it, and a couple of Florida summers of heat cycles will find it. There's nothing to find when the seam is behind a badge you'd have to unbolt to reach.

Where a part can't come off, the film goes around it. The hood is wrapped all the way around its back edge and onto the underside — no seam sitting out where you'd ever see it or touch it.

Here's the honest part. None of this shows up in a photo on delivery day, and none of it shows up in a quote. Two cars can roll out looking identical. Eighteen months in, one of them still looks like this.

And we're the only shop putting its edges on your screen this close. We do it because we believe our finish work is the best you'll find, and because zooming all the way in is the only way you'd ever know either way.

How would you even know if the film was done right?

Brand new 2026 Golf GTI, Pure White. Once the paint protection film is on, you can't see it. That's the whole point — and it's also the problem. On a white car there's nothing to judge. No line across the hood. No haze in the sun. Nothing.

So we show the part nobody photographs.

→ Hood and fenders fully wrapped
→ Mirror caps came white from the factory — done in gloss black PPF, wrapped, not trimmed flat across the top
→ Door shut line — tucked into the gap, so the edge sits behind the panel, not on top of it

Here's why that matters more than the day-one photos. An edge left sitting on the paint is where it all starts. Dirt packs into it. Wash water works under it. Give it a couple of Florida summers of heat cycles and that seam is where lifting begins.

Two installs can look identical on delivery day. Eighteen months later they don't, and the difference lives at the edges and corners.

Nine cars, two shops, one day. And the one that took the most time today is the one that was already finished.

Here's the walk through: a Jeep in for a detail, a Golf GTI getting a front cap with the mirrors and headlights, a Supra up on the lift for a massive hood, fully wrapped bumper, splitter, fenders and mirrors. A Palisade getting full window tint. Then at the second shop, a Mustang Dark Horse and a Kia wrapping up full body, with a Corvette, a GMC Acadia and one more car going under ceramic.

The Kia is worth talking about. We had a little more dirt in the air than we're used to today, and one piece went down with something caught under the edge. Honestly, nobody would have noticed it standing in a parking lot. We're pulling the piece back off anyway, laying fresh gel along the edge so nothing drops back down onto it, and replacing it.

The thing that doesn't come up when people are collecting quotes is that film doesn't fix itself. Whatever ends up under it on day one stays under it for as long as it's on the car. Making a car look right on pickup day is the easy part. What happens on the days you aren't there to watch is the part that actually decides how it looks in year three.

How much dirt is sitting under the front splitter on your car right now?

This Supra came in already washed. Looked clean. Then we pulled the lower splitter off and found packed grit in the seam that no wash mitt, no pressure washer, and no prep spray was ever going to reach.

Here's why that matters. Film goes on wet. You spray the panel, you lay the film, and every bit of that trapped dirt floats right back up under the edge. A couple weeks later it shows as specks along the bottom of a brand new install. The common workaround is to cut the film short and stop above the dirt, which leaves a visible edge sitting exactly where everyone looks.

So the panel comes off. Clean out what's behind it. Lay the film all the way down and wrap the edge where it belongs. It takes longer. That's the trade we make.

"Do you work on Teslas?"

There are three on the key board this week. Red, white, blue. That is how we are keeping them straight.

No two are in for the same reason:

🔴 Red is in for a ceramic coating. Red is the first color the Florida sun goes after. Once the clear coat oxidizes, no wax or polish is bringing that depth back.

⚪️ White is in for window tint. The side glass and windshield are where the heat is actually coming in, and where the interior takes the damage over time.

🔵 Blue is in for paint protection film. Soft factory paint, daily miles on 44. Rock chips on the hood and front bumper are not a possibility. They are a timeline.

Same vehicle, three entirely different problems.

Here is what most owners do not consider until year two: an EV has no engine heat, no oil changes, no transmission service. The paint and the glass are essentially the only things left that wear. The maintenance budget you are not spending at a dealership is the budget that determines what the vehicle looks like the day you sell it.

Can you find where the film ends?

That's the whole test.

This Tesla came in for front end paint protection film. Hood, bumper, fenders and mirrors. Easy part is laying the film. The part that decides how it looks in two years is the edges.

Film that stops at a panel edge leaves a visible line and a lip that starts holding dirt. So we take the pieces off. Flares, camera housing, trim. Then we roll the film underneath them. Hood fully rolled. Fenders fully rolled. You can stand a foot away and not find it.

Same film either way. The difference is the hours you never see on the invoice.

What actually makes a shop outgrow its building?

Not one big job. It's the week where every bay is full and there's still a car in the lot waiting on a spot.

When a board gets that full, there are only two ways out: rush the work, or make more room. We made more room. 2,500 sq ft to 5,000, still fully AC and humidity controlled.

Also, yes, I need a haircut. That's what a full board for six weeks straight looks like.

What's in it right now: a Lotus and a full-body stealth Range Rover, both in for PPF checks. Tesla getting front-end PPF, ceramic all the way around, tint all the way around. A Dark Horse in full-body PPF. A supercharged truck in for coating and tint. And one car we're pulling old decal adhesive off of, test spots first, always.
