GM’s New Parts Policy: No Used, Aftermarket, Reconditioned, or Salvage Parts

General Motors has issued a major update affecting Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, and Cadillac vehicles. GM now strictly prohibits the use of used, aftermarket, reconditioned, recycled, or salvage parts in collision repairs, structural repairs, ADAS‑equipped vehicles, and anything involving safety systems.

This isn’t a recommendation — it’s a hard stop.

GM states that non‑GM parts can’t guarantee proper crash performance, sensor alignment, or ADAS calibration. Even small deviations can affect airbag timing, automatic braking, lane‑keep assist, and other safety features. Because of this, GM requires brand‑new GM Genuine Parts only for proper and safe repairs.

For our customers:
This policy protects you. Your vehicle’s safety systems are engineered to work with GM parts, and using anything else can compromise performance, reliability, and warranty coverage.

If it’s not a new GM Genuine Part, it doesn’t go on your Chevrolet, GMC, Buick, or Cadillac.

This door definitely lost a battle, and to make matters worse, the insurance company didn’t want to pay to fix it correctly.

We repaired it the way the manufacturer requires — no shortcuts, no corner‑cutting — and provided the owner with all the documentation needed to fight for a fair claim settlement.
