The OG custom car guys were the MINI TRUCKIN guys before MINI TRUCKIN even existed.

We spotted this wild old-school custom at the Lowered Limits Car Show at L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, and it’s a perfect reminder that cutting up perfectly good vehicles didn’t start with us.

Long before mini truckers were body dropping trucks, shaving handles and getting told we were “ruining” perfectly good pickups, these guys were already doing it. Chopping tops, changing body lines, building custom grilles, laying cars on the ground and creating something Detroit never dreamed of building.

And just like mini truckers, they were the outcasts.

People thought they were crazy. Purists hated what they were doing. They took perfectly good cars and cut them apart simply because they had a different vision of what that car could be.

Sound familiar?

These builders were our Godfathers.

You can see that same mentality all over this build. The radical bodywork, slammed stance, whitewalls and wild blue, orange and purple flame graphics are pure old-school custom car culture.

Different generation. Different cars. Same mindset.

Before there was MINI TRUCKIN, there were guys in garages cutting s**t up, pi***ng off the purists and building something nobody else had.

And that will ALWAYS be old-school cool.

This is what American luxury looked like when subtle wasn’t even part of the conversation.

We spotted this beautiful blue Cadillac at the Lowered Limits Car Show at L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, and this big land yacht has all the flair that made these old Cadillacs so damn cool.

Big rear fins, tons of chrome and stainless brightwork, long sweeping body lines and little details everywhere you look. Cadillac wasn’t trying to hide the size of these cars or make them blend in. The whole car was designed to have presence.

Laid out over a beautiful set of polished wheels, this one keeps everything that made the original Cadillac styling special while giving it the stance to completely change its attitude.

And that’s what I love about these old American luxury cars. You can take two cars from the same era and get two completely different approaches to luxury.

The Lincoln Continental we showed earlier was the distinguished gentleman’s ride. Clean, simple and almost reserved.

The Cadillac?

It wanted everybody to know it had arrived.

Big fins. Brightwork everywhere. Miles of sheet metal.

What makes a two-door OBS Tahoe the ultimate dream build for custom truck enthusiasts? It comes down to those short-wheelbase proportions, timeless 90s GMT400 body lines, and the kind of presence that completely stops a show when it’s laid out flat on the ground.

A two-door Tahoe has been on our personal build bucket list for a long time. Every single time we spot a clean one at an event, it is an absolute no-brainer for us to stop and take it all in. This particular build, featured at the inaugural Lowered Limits show at L'Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, is one of the cleanest we’ve seen.

Laying frame over massive Billet Specialties wheels, the stance is dead-on. The exterior wears a deep, glassy custom paint job broken up by clean graphics layered with spun metal leaf details that pop in the sunlight.

Up front, the front clip ex*****on sets the entire tone. You can spot a classic Bob Grant front bumper from a mile away by the signature cutouts, recessed profile with the factory filler panels on each side seamlessly molded directly into the steel. Tying the whole front end together is a completely color-matched grille, bumper, and lower air dam, complemented by custom engraving flare worked into the front Chevy bowtie emblem.

Open the doors and the interior matches every ounce of that exterior dedication. The entire cabin is wrapped in custom leather featuring a sharp honeycomb stitch design across the seats, fully dialed in with a lineup of billet interior accessories from LG Billet USA and Spare Time Billet.

And if the stance doesn’t catch you first, you are definitely going to hear this thing coming. The back of the Tahoe is packed out with a wall of massive speakers backed by enough heavy-gauge wiring and pure amplifier power to wire up the entire building it is parked in front of. It looks incredible, it hits hard, and it was a standout build that defined the entire weekend at Lowered Limits in Lake Charles.

In an era when American luxury cars were getting bigger, flashier and covered in fins, the 1961-1966 su***de-door Lincoln Continental did things a little differently.

And to me, it did it gracefully.

We spotted this Lincoln Continental at the Lowered Limits Car Show at L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, Louisiana, and it’s a perfect example of why I’ve always loved this generation.

These cars are incredibly complex, but somehow look incredibly simple. The long straight body lines, slab sides and clean proportions give the Continental an unmistakable presence without needing anything wild to get your attention. Then you start looking closer and realize just how much stainless brightwork and trim is worked into the car.

Open those iconic rear su***de doors and that same attention to detail continues inside. Miles of stainless trim, brightwork and little details give the interior a level of class that you just don’t see anymore.

I’ve always looked at these old Lincoln Continentals as the distinguished gentleman’s ride.

This one doesn’t need giant wheels or a bunch of modifications to change what it is. Put it on the right set of classic wheels with whitewall tires, lay that big land yacht down on the ground, and leave everything else alone.

No crazy graphics. No over-the-top body mods. Nothing fighting for attention.

Just an iconic su***de-door Lincoln Continental sitting exactly how it should.

Simple PERFECTION

Some mini trucks are built to be clean. Some are built to be different. Tom Jenkins’ Toys 4 Tommys Toyota manages to do both.

We caught up with Tom and his Toyota mini truck at the Lowered Limits Car Show at L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles, Louisiana, and this thing has all the right ingredients. It’s right-hand drive, bagged, body dropped and laid out hard, but the longer you look at it, the more little details start showing up.

The white body is covered in flowing purple, blue and black old-school graphics that scream MINI TRUCKIN, with that same purple theme carried throughout the entire build. Inside, the custom interior mixes black and gray with purple piping, purple belts and a polished steering wheel, while the engine bay keeps the same theme going.

Then you get to the bed.

Instead of hiding everything, Tom made the suspension part of the show. The custom tube work and air suspension are exposed through the bed floor and finished in purple, turning something that normally gets covered up into another detail worth stopping to look at.

And being a right-hand-drive Toyota just adds another layer of cool to an already RAD mini truck.

This is what I love about old-school mini truck builds. Body drops, air ride suspension, wild graphics, custom interiors and a theme that carries from one end of the truck to the other.

Toys 4 Tommys isn’t trying to hide what era inspired it.

It wears MINI TRUCKIN culture all over it.
