Westfield riders, a UTV that sat all winter isn't the same machine you parked in the fall.

Months of cold storage are hard on a side-by-side. Batteries lose their charge. Fuel breaks down and can gum up injectors. Drive belts stiffen, fluids collect moisture, and rubber boots and bushings dry out and crack. Most of it stays hidden until you're miles down the trail.

Southwick riders, how you park your UTV this fall decides how it starts next spring.

New England winters are tough on a machine that sits. Untreated fuel breaks down in the tank. A battery left connected slowly drains and may not recover. Old oil holds moisture and combustion byproducts against internal parts for months, and mud left on the frame traps moisture right where rust starts.

A little prep now prevents most of it: fresh fluids before storage, stabilized fuel, a maintained battery, a thorough wash, and a quick inspection so worn parts get handled over the winter instead of during riding season.

Agawam riders, the mud is part of the fun. Leaving it on your UTV for a week is not.

Caked-on mud holds moisture against your frame, bearings, and electrical connections, and that's where corrosion gets started. Packed into a radiator, it blocks airflow and drives up engine temps. It also adds weight and wears on seals and bushings every time the suspension cycles.

A clean machine has another benefit: you can actually see it. A torn CV boot, a leaking shock, or a cracked weld is easy to miss under a layer of dirt and easy to catch once it's washed.

Every rider knows how it feels. The trail gets deeper, the mud gets thicker, and suddenly your machine isn't going anywhere.
