Where is the Air?
It’s inevitable. Your car’s air conditioning will fail on the hottest day and when you need it most. And while it may seem unavoidable, there are steps you can take to ensure that your air conditioning system is in tip-top shape to keep you cool in the summer heat.
The AC system works off of high and low pressures transforming refrigerant from a gas to a liquid and back to a gas. Ensuring proper refrigerant levels and using the correct type of oil allows accurate pressures for effective air conditioning operation. In the case of a system that no longer provides cooling, there are many steps to determine the cause. First, evacuating the system, obtaining proper vacuum to remove contaminants and re-charging to the correct pressures will ensure you have met the basic guidelines for staying cool. Additionally, inspection of the cabin filter for clogged debris and testing performance of the blower motor and resistor operation will ensure unobstructed and continuous air flow. Topping up the refrigerant oil and installing ultraviolet dye will allow trace of leaks should the system fail after a short time. Your air conditioning system has plenty of places for leaks to occur and at the first sign of failure, a Eurosport of Westfield service advisor can verify these likely causes before it’s too late.
Consumers should be leery of after-market products such as all-in-one kits, stop leak products, generic oils and additives since often times these can cause o-rings and seals to swell, thus creating a leak. These temporary fixes can cause major damage to the air conditioning components – sometimes permanently.
When the summer sun is beaming down, air conditioning is more than a convenience; it’s essential! During all your travel, be safe and be be cool!
