Water pump shift shaft assembly replacement day. This boat is from 1993 and this is the first time the water pump impeller has ever been replaced according to the original owner. The record so far that I have seen was a 1976 Mercury outboard with the original impeller. This boat has 450 hours on it, Mercury recommends changing the impeller every 3 years or 300 hours whichever comes first. Sometimes they can last forever, but this was a rare breed for sure. Many of the impellers I remove after 2 or 3 years have already begun to score and weaken.
