The counterintuitive science that surprises almost everyone:

⚙️ Car batteries are chemical devices. Chemical reactions roughly double their rate of wear for every 18°F above the ideal 77°F (this is the Arrhenius principle). Under-hood temps in Sacramento summer regularly hit 150–180°F. Do the math on how fast your battery is aging.

📊 The data that proves it:
• Sacramento / Phoenix / Vegas: 30–36 months average battery life
• Portland / Seattle / Boston: 48–58 months average
• Same battery. Same manufacturer. Different climate.

🔍 Six warning signs your battery is dying:
1. Slower engine crank than usual
2. Dashboard lights dim during startup
3. Clock or radio presets reset
4. Battery warning light on dash
5. Blue-green corrosion on terminals
6. Rotten-egg smell (🚨 replace immediately)

For 25 years, every new car in America used the same A/C refrigerant. Then, quietly, the industry swapped it out. 🌡️

R-134a vs R-1234yf: WHY YOUR REFRIGERANT DETERMINES YOUR A/C BILL

Here's the story most drivers never hear:

⚙️ From 1994 to about 2014, every US car used R-134a. Effective, cheap, but a strong greenhouse gas (1,430x more warming than CO₂).

🌱 Starting in 2013, the industry began switching to R-1234yf — same cooling performance, but ~1/1,000th the environmental impact. The EPA made it federally required on all new US vehicles by 2021.

💰 The catch: R-1234yf costs 8–10x more per ounce ($5.28 vs $0.55 wholesale). That's real chemistry — not markup. It's a patent-protected molecule made at a small number of licensed plants, and shops need certified equipment to handle it.

🔍 The 60-second check to know which one you have: read the underhood specification label. Every A/C-equipped car has one. It tells you the refrigerant type and the exact system capacity. As a quick rule of thumb:

• 2013 & older: R-134a almost certainly
• 2014–2020: Mixed — label is the answer
• 2021 & newer: R-1234yf federally required
