What does a wastegate actually do inside your turbo? Let’s clear it up. 👇

Simple version: a wastegate “wastes” some exhaust straight down the pipe so it skips the turbine. That does two things you want — it controls your boost and drive pressure, and it boosts flow (about 10 lbs/min more). The result? A smaller housing that breathes like a big one.

Here’s why ours is built different. A lot of companies use a boost-actuated wastegate. They work… but under high boost they can swing wide open and slam the valve hard enough to bend it over time.

We run a spring gate controlled by exhaust pressure. It only opens as far as it needs to — no slamming, no damage, basically lasts forever. And you adjust it in about 30 seconds with an Allen wrench.

The best part is the A/R trick. This is a .80 A/R housing, but with the wastegate open it flows like a .93–.95. So you get quick spool-up AND strong top end. Best of both worlds — no electronics, no VGT needed, fully mechanical and bulletproof. 💨

So if someone’s telling you to run a non-gated turbo? You’re giving up spool, top end, or both. Plain and simple.

Larger vs. smaller A/R ratio. What’s the difference?
