At Quarts & Lugnuts, we’ve learned that most drivers check the four tires consistently on the road—but often completely overlook the spare.

This matters because spare tires lose air over time and can become damaged or punctured, depending on where on or in the car they are stored.

And the last thing you want is to discover that yours is flat when you’re already stranded.

To avoid this, we advise checking your spare’s tire pressure every few months and before any long trip. The correct PSI is usually printed on the tire or listed in your owner’s manual—and it may be much higher than your regular tires.
