đŸ„¶ Looking for ways to stay warm this winter without paying the high cost of heating oil?
We’ve come up with a few ideas. Some are better than others
 😂

Fortunately, our friends at Brookside Building Supply have a much simpler solution!

🏁 A little New England racing history from our friend and marketing partner Mike Horsch from Horsch Garage Equipment.

Mike took “The Twister” to the Pines Speedway reunion in Groveland, Massachusetts, on Saturday. Built in 1965, this car won the first pavement Supermodified championship in 1966, then went on to race at Beech Ridge when it was still dirt. This hot rod has probably won around 100 features over its racing career!

This car comes from a time when ingenuity reigned supreme. These guys used what they had lying around, along with their own two hands and their noggins, to create speed. Built, not bought!

Pretty cool to see Mike keeping this piece of racing history alive and sharing it with the people who appreciate it!

🏁 Anyone looking for a 17×8 right rear wheel?

I’ve got a sweet Keizer with bleeder ports and a cover for sale. This one spent the whole season in the shop, so it’s in great shape—which is more than I can say for most of the #89’s parts. 😂
Seriously, it’s a nice wheel. $400. Message me if you’re interested!

🏁 SCONE SEASON FINALE RECAP

Remember all those nose jokes about my bent-up race car? Well, it turns out back by the trunk was junk too.

While doing race prep, we noticed a few parts in the rear binding up. We took a closer look and—jinkies—the back of this thing is bent, too. 😳 We didn’t need Scooby and the gang to solve this mystery. The #89 was looking like Jake Paul after six rounds with Anthony Joshua.

Most people probably would’ve called it a day right there, but we’re either too stubborn or too crazy for that. Besides, never before have I been handed such an easy excuse for being off the pace. And we just really like being at the track so we headed up there in spite of it all.

With rain threatening, the track skipped heat races and went straight to features. We started third and finished tenth in our final SCoNE - Sprint Cars of New England race of the season at Bear Ridge Speedway. Normally, that might call the pilot’s abilities into question, but we’d already found our golden goose of an excuse. This one’s on the bent-up junk race car! 😉

After a season that had us rebuilding the #89 more than once, we’ve still got plenty to feel good about:

🏁 Four heat race wins
🏁 Fifth in the overall points standings
❀ About $6,000 raised for Teagan’s Ride with help from the racing community and some great people
😂 Hopefully a few laughs for you guys, even when the joke was on us

Thank you to everyone who helped us put the car back together, supported us, and followed along through all the nonsense. Here’s to a hard-fought season! 🏁

Heading to Bear Ridge Speedway this Saturday with the Owen Wilson edition of the #89: a crooked nose and more laughs than Wedding Crashers, Shanghai Noon, Starsky & Hutch, and Zoolander put together. 😂🏁

We’re looking a little worse for wear, but feeling more or less all right. It’s been a tough year for the team, with repair bills bigger than Ryan Blaney’s mustache and prize checks about the size of a disposable lighter repairman’s paycheck.

Thank God for all the bad luck we’ve had, because without it, we wouldn’t have had any luck at all. 😂

And somehow, we’re still having fun. Maybe it’s the fumes. Maybe it’s the lack of sleep. Maybe we’ve just got a few screws loose. But really, it’s the people we get to spend time with, the folks who support and encourage us, and the memories we make together. That’s what makes it all worth it.

See you Saturday at Bear Ridge with SCoNE - Sprint Cars of New England. 🏁

🏁 UNITY RACE WEEKEND RECAP

Oh gross
 what’s that smell?

Is it Troy’s performance that stinks?

Take it easy, guys. It’s just a skunk wandering around outside turn one.

No, really. It was. 😂

And to be fair, we’ve actually been getting faster every time we go there.

After the long journey north—over rivers, past lakes, and approximately 50 Dunkin’ Donuts—we finally arrived at the Unity Race Way, The Rebuild LLC gor our race with SCoNE - Sprint Cars of New England.

Wait
did we miss our exit? How far north DID we go?

Is that Santa?!

Nope. Just Bob Kilborne, AKA Santa Bob, of Kilburn Motor Sports handing out goodies to the kiddos.

We hit the track for hot laps and showed some pretty good speed. Unfortunately, that speed stayed back at the trailer for the heat race, which put us starting near the tail for the feature.

We were settled in and starting to click a few cars off when we got dumped in turn three.

Bob probably put him on the naughty list. He’ll probably get a crate motor or something equally terrible in his stocking this year.

Two other cars got collected, and about 20 gallons of methanol issued forth from my ripped-open fuel cell, flowing across the track like one of the many babbling little brooks tucked away in the peaceful Maine woods.

After a nice ride in the wrecker back to the pits, there we were again:

Race car on jack stands.

Now, some people might say we’re stupid. Others might say we’re crazy.

I prefer to say we’re persistent with a never-give-up attitude.

There’s probably a pretty fine line between the three.

Anyway

We borrowed a fuel cell from William Hull, the Budz and Sudz team helped and the Herbert Racing crew donated some fuel because apparently we hadn’t brought enough methanol to both create a small tributary AND run two nights of racing.

So Saturday we rolled back out looking a little worse for wear.

And somehow

WE WON THE HEAT RACE. 🎉🎉🎉

Even with the front of the race car frame looking like Princess Vespa from Spaceballs pre-nose job.

We followed that up with a 6th-place finish in the feature after another wild race that claimed two more race cars.

So, looking at the final scoreboard for the weekend:

FINAL SCORE:

UNITY RACEWAY:
Junk frame
Junk tail tank
Junk front axle
Junk radius rods
Junk nose wing
Half-junk top wing

TROY:
1 heat race win 🎉🎉🎉

I’m calling it a draw.

On paper, you’d probably assume I don’t like this place very much.

But I’m a sucker for campfires, Miller Lites, and good company. Huge thank you to Joey Doyon and Holly Doyon for creating an atmosphere at their racetrack that somehow makes it easy to forget your race car is basically a scrap heap sitting on jack stands.

We had an absolute blast visiting with friends and family, laughing around the campfire, racing cars, and not sleeping nearly enough.

Now it’s time to gather up the remaining pieces and limp our way back to Bear Ridge to finish out the season.

Goonies never say die. 🏁

Well, we headed upta Maine to Unity Race Way, The Rebuild LLC with the SCoNE - Sprint Cars of New England.

It wasn’t the dark of the moon or the sixth of June, but we had ourselves a convoy — me leading the charge in the big Power Stroke with the old Zemco trailer in tow, and Stacey bringing up the rear with our sleeping quarters, courtesy’s of Ronald and Mary Whitcher🙏🙏.

We’re hoping we packed enough good luck to make up for the lack of talent. If not, that’s alright too, because we definitely packed enough b**r 😉 Unity is always a blast either way!

🏁 BEAR RIDGE RACE RECAP

Another race weekend in the books at Bear Ridge Speedway with SCoNE - Sprint Cars of New England, and overall—not too bad.

We ran a special format this weekend: time trials to set the first feature, followed by twin 20-lap features, with the lead-lap cars inverted for Feature #2.

I went out for time trials and set a blistering pace that only 10 of the 16 cars there were able to beat. đŸ”„

That put us 11th for Feature #1, where we managed to claw our way all the way up to
 10th.

By Feature #2 I was pretty relaxed. Hell, we’d been about as fast as a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter all night. Couldn’t get much worse.

Apparently that was the setup adjustment we needed.

We ran a pretty solid 20 laps and we almost pulled off a last-lap pass for second on Will Hill, But this isn’t horseshoes, and it isn’t hand grenades. It’s racing. Almost doesn’t count.
So we brought it home 3rd, behind the man, the myth, the legend Chris Donnelly and Will Hull.

That was good enough for 6th overall on the night, So no tears in our b**rs this week đŸ»

🏁Albany-Saratoga Speedway Recap🏁

We rolled into Albany-Saratoga with SCoNE - Sprint Cars of New England with a pretty stout field on hand and started 2nd in the heat. We held our own for a while before a restart shuffled the deck and we got swallowed up by some of the heavy hitters.

That put us 14th for the feature.

From there, we did what we came to do. Drove the absolute wheels off the thing for 25 laps, left very little on the table, and when the dust settled we had successfully advanced all the way to
 15th😂😂.

Oh well. We learned what not to do on a few setup things at that place and had some fun doing it.

Unfortunately, the Pro Stocks spent a considerable amount of time murdering each other’s race cars in the feature before ours, so we got off the track pretty late and pointed the rig toward home.

The important part: we got that case of b**r safely back across state lines. đŸș

No run-ins with the law, no sheriffs in hot pursuit, and nobody had to distract Jackie Gleason while we slipped across the border.

Wouldn’t exactly call this sequel a hit

but it was still better than Smokey and the Bandit II.
