This year will mark the 9th annual James Shutts Memorial, which saw its beginning at Oswego Kartway back in 2018. James was an avid racing fan, especially Oswego Speedway, and a many time feature winner and champion at Oswego Kartway, mostly competing in the Super Heavy and Masters ranks.
Following James passing, his friends and family thought it would be fitting to run a big time Super Heavy event in his honor... and it has been done ever since. With Oswego slowing down and eventually closing, the race was moved here to Weedsport.
With a light year in regards to Super Heavy entries, this year's event will be run at PRO 390, but we hope to again move back to Super Heavy in 2027.
Below is a quick recap of the first Shutts Memorial held at Oswego in 2018, which saw 20 entries on hand. Dan Kapuscinski picked up the inaugural win driving a Jason Simmons Racing owned, No. 00M. The race was run in the same format as now, with Twin 22 segments and an invert at halfway. This year, it will be a complete Top 6 redraw.
The Shutts family continues racing to this day, with James son Jamie having been a Weedsport champion, and now his grandsons competing in Red Clone.
