OUR MAIN INSTALLERS TRUCK WAS DAMAGED BY A LOCAL SHOP. THIS SHOP HAS DENIED REPAIRS AND RECTIFICATION OF THE SITUATION IN ANYWAY.
We do not associate or condone shops treating customers the way he has been. If we break something, damage something, or need to fix anything at all, we do. These guys have done exactly the opposite and our community should be aware of this in their decision to choose a repair shop.
Story attached below.
BEWARE of Hooligan performance
WARNING ABOUT HOOLIGAN PERFORMANCE
TLDR: I’m making this post because I believe I was taken advantage of, repeatedly given information that turned out not to be accurate, and ultimately left dealing with damage to my truck after trusting Hooligan Performance to work on it. I gave Danny multiple opportunities to make this right, including giving him additional time to work things out with his insurance. I was told more than once that he would make it right regardless of what insurance decided. After months of trying to get a resolution, I am now at the point where I feel like other people in the area need to know what happened before trusting this business with their vehicle.
I want to lay everything out in chronological order and let people see exactly what happened.
July 25
I initially contacted Danny about having work done on my 6.4 Power Stroke. My main concerns at the time were the exhaust leaks and a significant oil leak.
We discussed replacing the up pipes, addressing the exhaust manifold issue and repairing the oil leak.
Danny quoted me $500 for the exhaust work. I specifically asked whether that included the parts, and he told me it did not, but that he could get the parts and adjust accordingly.
At this point, everything seemed straightforward. I agreed to move forward.
July 27
I reached back out to go over pricing on some other things while the truck was in their possession. This included the up pipes, exhaust manifold gaskets, and fixing the oil leak that he had previously mentioned. I had mentioned that there was work I didn't want performed at this time as well. At this time I was told that my oil pan gasket was leaking and that he will have to remove the turbo and lift the engine. Shortly thereafter, I had mentioned that I wanted an itemized list showing the breakdown and cost of the work that was going to be performed. I never received that list.
July 28
I checked in for an update. Danny explained that they were in the middle of moving shops and said he was trying to handle a lot of things at once.
He then told me they had run into additional problems, including stripped bolts on the turbo housing and exhaust manifold bolts. He said he had ordered new clamps, would be replacing the necessary exhaust hardware and would be chasing the threads in the block.
He also said he still needed to send me an itemized breakdown of the labor and parts.
I understood that unexpected problems can happen when working on an older truck, so I was patient.
Danny told me that the end of the week was the worst-case scenario and specifically said he would honor the original $800 quote while including the additional work such as the oil pan gasket.
I told him I understood and that I hoped to have the truck back sooner, but that I understood the process.
July 31 to August 1
I checked again on the estimated completion time.
Danny apologized for the delays and continued explaining that they were working through the issues with the truck and another customer's vehicle.
August 1 1:55pm
I checked again on the estimated completion time as I had other tasks to complete that required my truck. No response.
4:20pm
I notified Hooligan performance that I will come pick up the truck and take it somewhere else to get the work done that needed to be completed.
August 4-5
Danny sent me pictures of the parts and continued giving me updates.
On August 5, he sent pictures showing the old up pipes removed and said they were moving quickly.
I was obviously happy to see progress and continued trusting that the truck was being properly repaired.
During the conversation, I specifically asked whether the exhaust manifold gaskets had been replaced.
Danny told me no. He said he believed he had previously explained that the exhaust manifold itself was loose, which was why the price was cheaper than originally quoted.
He explained that when they began tearing the truck down and removing the old up pipes, the exhaust manifold itself was moving around.
I told him that as long as it didn't leak, I would take his word for it. I also pointed out that when we built boost, we had seen a leak coming from that area.
Danny told me that if it continued leaking, he would replace them for free.
I accepted that and continued forward with the repair.
Later that evening, Danny told me the pipes were installed, the top end was put back together and the truck had fresh oil (7:29pm)
I had asked when is a good time to pick up the truck and what the total is, as I never received an itemized list showing the breakdown of the work. Danny then asked me what I think is fair to pay, as the work took way longer to complete and that he would like to keep me as a customer.
10:34pm
Danny sent me a message saying that they were adding oil to the truck now. He also stated that he had to drive to Dallas to get a clamp from a friend of his because no part stores around here had the exact clamp I needed. He also stated that it was on, tightened and that there was only a few things left to put back on the top and they were done.
August 6
Danny sent me a picture of the truck and told me he was getting ready to test drive it.
At this point, after all the delays and additional problems, I believed I was finally getting my truck back.
I asked what I owed him, he said he was attempting to be more one on one with me. We then agreed on $700 for the total.
Later that evening, I had noticed that the truck was still leaking oil and reached back out to Hooligan performance. Once again, no resolution.
August 7
I had reached back out to Hooligan performance after noticing very strange gaps from my front fenders to my driver and passenger doors.
After further inspection, it appeared that the cab bolts had been removed and they had attempted to lift the cab by the pinch weld on the fender itself. Danny had stated that he wanted me to bring the truck back and they will bring it to a body shop off technology way and they will cover the bill. I then explained to Danny that I was not going to bring the truck back to him, and that I will be bringing the truck to a body shop of my choice. After the lies and miscommunication from Hooligan performance I couldn't trust them with my truck anymore. Danny was understanding and said he will provide his contact info and address for the bill.
August 10
I had now received a quote from a body shop I trusted and provided Hooligan performance with this quote. He stated he was going to look it over and he would get back to me shortly.
August 11
Danny stated that he had stopped by the body shop, provided his info and has contacted his insurance. He let me know that a claim had been filed for the repairs through his insurance and he would provide any and all info to me as he received it.
August 12
I had reached out to his insurance company to follow up and get an update on the situation. They made me aware that they were speaking with Danny about coverages and any updates I wanted I would have to get through him.
August 14
I reached out to Danny after receiving an email that the insurance company had sent out their final decision for the claim. Danny made me aware that he was on the phone with them and they denied the claim so he was trying to get answers. At this time he also stated that "if I have to come out of pocket for it I will do so, I just at the moment don't have that much to freely spend. But either way I will make this right".
August 20
I had reached out again to receive an update in hopes to finally get the damages fixed. Danny has said that he was dealing with the insurance company trying to get answers and come up with a solution. I had stated that by September 1st, I wanted an answer and that if an answer was not given I was going to drop the truck off at the body shop and he will have to pay the bill.
September 1
At this time I still have not received an answer from Hooligan performance about the repairs. So I reached back out and asked what they would like to do since it is the deadline. "Yeah send it to pdr" was the exact response. The bill was to be sent to his shop. The truck was then dropped off.
September 16
I follow up with the body shop where the truck is located. He mentioned that Danny with Hooligan performance was disputing certain items on the repair order as he didn't think he caused the damage. These pieces were the fenders and the hood.
September 17
The body shop reaches out to me stating that I needed to come pick up the truck and that I needed to receive a check from Danny at Hooligan performance for the repairs before the body shop can proceed.
I'd like to add, during this whole process Danny's technician (or atleast I think) was also in communication with me. Every day they both had different stories and different progress updates, however the technician was mainly phone calls so I cannot provide time stamps.
Edit: upon pickup of the truck, it was covered in greasy handprints inside and out. As well as he tried to wash the underside so I couldn't tell that it was still leaking oil.
To this day, Hooligan performance has not made an attempt to reach out to me in regards to the repairs needed for my truck. If you have any recommendations for body work, diesel mechanics as well as a lawyer please drop them below.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far.
