FYI - I received an email earlier this week from the State of Wisconsin. Grant opportunities are still available immediately to any student that would normally qualify for free or reduced lunch programs at their school. If you believe that you, or your child, would qualify for this opportunity, please do not let it pass you by.

To start the process use this link and click the option for Grant Information.

Driver's Ed Grants are available to all students who qualify for free or reduced lunch programs.

The following is from the most recent email sent out to Driver's Ed providers:

The Driver Education Grant program will launch on April 13th at 9:00AM. Students and/or parents may visit us at Wisconsin Department of Transportation Driver Education Grant Program to apply.

Income eligible students will be able to take classroom and/or behind the wheel training from accredited schools like yours. The process is the same as previous releases. The student will enroll, and DMV will provide those eligible with coupons to present to authorized Driver Training schools. Those schools enrolled as a WisDOT vendor will be reimbursed for their training provided.

If students apply but are not accepted for a grant this quarter, they can visit our notification list to be notified when the grant will be available again the next quarter. The notification list will be available when the grant is not.

If you are not enrolled in the Driver Education Grant program, unsure of your status or have any other additional questions, please reach out to us at: [email protected]

As parents, we always want to teach our children core attributes that will make them successful as adults.

Among other traits, we try to teach our kids to be responsible, respectful, intelligent and independent.

Attached is an article from Business Insider, dated February 9, 2026. The article covers a significant trend in Gen Z to delay getting their Driver's License. However, after reading the article, one point that is missed is that the process of getting a Driver's License is more than teaching students how to drive. Rather, we are helping to teach teens how to be responsible, respectful, intelligent and independent.

As parents, we often make sure that our kids do things that they do not want to do (like going to the dentist) because we know, in the long run, they will benefit from it. Driver's Ed is no different. Teens will benefit from formal Driver's Ed training for the rest of their lives.

If you have a few moments, please read the article. If this sounds like something going on in your house now, please take time to have a frank discussion with your teen about the importance of getting their Driver's License, and the beneficial ramifications it will have throughout their lives.

Driving is too scary, expensive, and exhausting for Gen Z. So they're waiting to get a license and making their parents ferry them around.
