Founded in 1964 as a part-time venture in George Lane’s garage, Lane Automotive has become a speed equipment industry phenomenon. Since the days when local racers lined up to buy racing parts at that tiny, one man shop, the company has grown and is comprised of four separate divisions. One thing has remained the same throughout the years of growth at Lane Automotive: the desire to provide the best parts and the best service at competitive prices.

In 1966, George Brugos of Gary, Indiana, transformed this 1960 Vespa into a big-block-powered drag racer. From 1967 until US 30 Drag Strip closed in 1981, the car became a familiar sight at the track. Its short wheelbase, oversized rear tires and wheels-up launches made it a consistent performer and an unforgettable crowd favorite.

Now on display at the Lane Automotive showroom entrance, “No Big Thing” remains a remarkable piece of Midwest drag-racing history. Swipe through to see the car today, along with photographs from its years in competition.
