We had a 500 EXC-F in to get lowered recently. Between building flat track bikes and ADV bikes we end up lowering quite a few bikes here.

The best way to get the reduced seat height is by reducing the stroke of the shock and forks - effectively making them shorter. Certain chassis specs are necessary to know how much to shorten the shock to ensure rake and trail numbers will be correct for the application.

When the stroke is reduced there are many things changing besides the overall length of the component. Volumes change, shaft velocity of the shock may change as the bike now lives deeper into the motion ratio curve, wheels rates and wheel forces change. In order to give the rider a bike that still feels similar in the end, adjustments will need to be made.

I finally had a chance to get into the suspension on the Tenere 700. The T7 definitely uses the OEM suspension to keep the price point down.

Here are a few pictures showing my process for setting up a chassis I have not done any tuning with previously.

I take great care when doing a set up on a chassis for the first time. Measuring the strokes of the OEM shock and forks, where bottoming points are, rake, trail, velocity ratio/linkage, and OEM ride heights. I often dissect the new components as well. Whether it's something from Andreani, K Tech, or Öhlins it's important to verify strokes, spring rates, and other spec card details before installing them on the bike.

Once the bike is done, the customer and I spend some time going over what the various external adjustments do, how to adjust them, and when to do so. We'll set the ride heights and adjust accordingly for their weight. I print off a set up sheet with all the details and settings of their bike before and after the set up. My setup sheets are a great way to track changes and keep notes for individual tracks or rides.

We had a good weekend of racing at the Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club
Reilly made the move up to the Open B amateur class on Sunday and got 2nd place in the stacked 250cc Class!
Our Macklin Motorsports Husqvarna FC250 has been the perfect bike for her.
Our next race is at Throttle Valley race track in New Ulm, MN - June 20th - 22nd. 🏁

flat track opener on the new 250 went well. Friday practice helped us figure out gearing for the weekend. Reilly took to the bike immediately and we had to make minimal adjustments for her to get comfortable.
We have a good starting base for the next round in New Ulm for the amateur national qualifier.

We've been working towards our goal of giving back to our local flat track community putting together an amateur race team.
