The problem with the Electoral College:

Let's suppose EVERY voter in 39 states and the District of Columbia votes for Kamala Harris, casting tens of millions of votes. The electoral vote count for these states and D.C. would total 268 votes.

Now, let's suppose ONLY 1 PERSON from each of the 11 other states shows up to vote, and all 11 people vote for Donald Trump. Trump would get all the electoral votes for those 11 states.

The 11 states with the most electoral votes are: California (55), Texas (38), New York (29), Florida (29), Illinois (20), Pennsylvania (20), Ohio (18), Georgia (16), Michigan (16), North Carolina (15), New Jersey (14).

In the Electoral College, there are a total of 538 votes. A candidate needs 270 of those votes to win the presidency. The combined electoral vote for those 11 states is exactly 270. Guess who wins the election.

In this scenario, it takes only 11 people to thwart the will of the majority of Americans.
