DIESEL FACT: IDLING IS NOT HARMLESS!

Think letting your diesel truck sit there and idle for hours is doing it a favor? THINK AGAIN!

Excessive idling might seem harmless, but while you're burning fuel and going nowhere, your engine could be paying the price.

HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING UNDER THE HOOD:

🔹 Fuel Waste: You're burning diesel without putting a single mile on the odometer.

🔹 Carbon Buildup: Extended low-load idling can contribute to soot and carbon deposits in your engine and emissions systems.

🔹 DPF Headaches: Low exhaust temperatures can interfere with proper Diesel Particulate Filter regeneration, leading to costly maintenance.

🔹 Unnecessary Engine Hours: Your odometer might not be moving, but your engine's wear clock sure is!

💡 TORQUE'S SHOP TIP:

Modern diesel engines generally don't need extended warm-ups. Follow your manufacturer's recommendations, give the oil a chance to circulate, and drive gently until the engine reaches operating temperature.

Some work trucks need to idle to operate equipment, but unnecessary idling? That's just burning money.

REMEMBER: JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT MOVING DOESN'T MEAN YOUR ENGINE ISN'T WORKING.

IT'S TUESDAY SO LET’S TORQUE ABOUT IT — DAY 1

DIESEL ENGINES DON’T NEED SPARK PLUGS.

Wait... what? 🤔

Unlike gasoline engines, diesels don’t use spark plugs to ignite the fuel.

Instead, a diesel engine compresses air so intensely that the air gets HOT. When diesel fuel is injected into that highly compressed air, the heat causes it to ignite.

That process is called compression ignition, and it’s one of the reasons diesel engines are built so damn tough.

🔥 No spark required
💪 Serious torque

And before somebody says it...

Yes, diesels can have glow plugs. But glow plugs help with cold starting. They aren’t spark plugs and don’t continuously ignite the fuel while the engine is running.

Now you know. 🤘
