How Range Drops Over a Fob's Lifespan
Fresh Battery (3.0V – 3.3V): You get the maximum factory range. Depending on the vehicle brand, this allows you to lock, unlock, or remote-start your car from 60 to over 300 feet away.Draining
Battery (2.7V – 2.9V): The signal weakens significantly. You will notice you have to get much closer to the vehicle—often within 10 to 15 feet—for the doors to respond. Remote start features usually stop working entirely at this stage to preserve enough power for basic unlocking.
Critically Low Battery (Below 2.7V): The range drops to zero. The vehicle will only respond if you are standing directly next to the driver's door, or you may have to resort to using the physical emergency key blade.

When your FOB dies you have to deal with the backup hidden key which is a pain. Keep your battery fresh on both sets. We recommend once a year. A strong battery lets you find your car in big parking lots because the range is much better.

(Tip for keeping your car battery and FOB battery strong longer:)

Storing keys too close to the car: Hanging your keys on a hook right next to the garage or a thin exterior wall causes the fob and vehicle to stay in constant communication. This kills both your fob battery and your car's 12V battery. Keep keys at least 15 to 20 feet away from the vehicle
