Remember, when someone asks you to do things cheaper, cheaper is definitely not better or best.
Most companies need INSURANCE, certifications, training, and many other things you don’t see.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:
Do you want that mobile mechanic that does NOT have insurance working on your vehicle in your yard?I was an insurance agent.
Scenario #1
So you hire Joe to work on your 1998 Kia Sorento. Your car needs ball joints and an oil pan gasket replaced. Joe jacks your car up on YOUR property. The car falls on Joe. Joe is severely injured. He eventually dies. His wife sues your homeowners because he didn’t have any insurance. Guess what, his family wins, but you don’t have homeowner insurance. So, Joe’s family sues you personally. Now your property has a lien and you can’t sell your property even your car until it is satisfied.
Scenario #2
Joe has adequate insurance to cover any accident he has while working. Joe is working on your Kia, and if falls on him. He is badly hurt and eventually passes. His family files a claim with HIS insurance and you offer your condolences and move on with your life.
Check the people you hire!
You hire a contractor and get a contract which is signed. Wonderful, right! Nott really. Did he show you is ACCORD CERTIFICATE PROOF OF INSURANCE? Is he bonded? He is licensed! Great but is he insured and bonded?
Scenario #1:
Tom is repairing your roof and falls off the roof hurting his arm. When you get to the hospital you realize he is 10 deep in mixed drinks and is a no brainer, it is his fault, right. Right! BUT you thought he had insurance so you don’t do a drug test at the hospital!!!! Then you realize when you get a notice from your homeowners insurance he is suing you. Why? BECAUSE Tom has NO INSURANCE, so he sues your homeowners. Oh no! You had a hunch but didn’t get a drug test to prove your doubts. Now your insurance company is paying out.
Scenario #1 BONDS:
BOND: he steals $25,000 of jewelry you can prove because you have receipts. Go file against his bond and YOU SHOULD be paid back especially if you have cameras.
NO BOND: Tom does work on your house and you know he steals your jewelry worth $25,000 and you have proof. He is not bonded! You can sue him but what will you get?!? Nothing!!!
Scenario 2: Tom is has his own insurance falls and files a claim against HIS insurance and you are able to offer your sympathies and find another insured contractor.
I saw someone ask for a wrecker service cheap!!! GOOD wrecker services need almost a $1,000,000,000 worth of insurance in case they damage your car or they have an accident. Have you seen the price of diesel? How about the risk they take on the roadways to ensure your car/truck makes it to their destinations.
