Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Prototype #4

Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Prototype #4 The "PVO Viper" was built in 2002 by Roush Racing for Dodge's Performance Vehicle Operations team (now SRT). I currently own it & occasionally track it.

It's the only survivor of 3 test mules built for the Comp Coupe program.

So I haven't run 'ol PVO in awhile so I thought I'd start her up for a few minutes. Is this a recommended practice? How often do you run your stored vehicles and what's your procedure?

Youngsters, you'll find this hard to believe, but only a short time ago, we waited anxiously each month for the magazines to arrive - by snail mail no less - so we could drool over the next-big-thing-we-could-not-afford. Funny fact - the very copy of Grassroots Motorsports in the lower left corner, sat unknown betwixt a pile of magazines on top of my toilet, for over 20 years! (too much information?) Not long ago, desperate for reading material - I accidentally happened upon it - and you can only imagine how that made my day!

A Confession: Victor at Complete Performance Motorsports and I each did a handful of shake down laps at Pitt Race, but I really hadn't driven PVO at the limit for almost three years. A few days later at VIR (my home track), PVO felt terrible to me - at speed I thought it was "darty". All I could muster was to tiptoe tentatively around the track in fear of crashing. Desperate, I set up this old school string alignment in the paddock - jack stands, fishing line and a rusty tape measure. Do you know what I found? The Complete Performance Motorsports alignment was FLAWLESS - not one millimeter off. So I resolved to put on my "big boy panties" and drive with my usual anger - no more pussyfooting around. PVO was OUTSTANDING the rest of the weekend.

Wow. After a 2.5 year restoration, PVO is back on track! Simply unbelievable work by Jeff Stout, Victor and their team at Complete Performance Motorsports - and also a shout out to Prefix Engineering for their engine refresh. Their dedication to perfection and the love they bring to their "art" is simply unmatched. Just spent 3 days at VIR and the car performed FLAWLESSLY - it is a friggen' BEAST. Evolution of P4's livery over the years (some of the changes are very subtle - can you spot them?). The PVO "brand" lived from 2002-2004. After that, Dodge tinkered with the livery accordingly. Here's an interesting article on the evolution of what has now become widely known as "SRT": https://www.hotcars.com/origin-story-dodge-srt-brand-revealed/

So why did Cindi Lux bring P4 out of retirement? Cindi used her trusty P4 steed (remember she was a test driver for Dodge) as a road racing training platform for NHRA Pro Stock Drag Racer Allen Johnson (Allen Johnson Racing) See original article here (picture and article courtesy Street Muscle Mag): https://www.streetmusclemag.com/news/johnson-trades-drag-strip-for-road-course/

And how did Allen do? I'll just say, he sure looks stoked: https://competitionplus.com/drag-racing/news/15504-pro-stocks-aj-shines-in-first-dodge-viper-race

(Note: to my knowledge, P4 was only used for driver training - my understanding is Allen raced one of Cindi's ACR-X's).
