By the 1980s, Waco had grown to over 100,000 residents — and Bird Kultgen Ford was celebrating 50 years of being part of this community. 🎉

It wasn't always easy. The auto industry faced tough times with foreign competition and rising fuel costs, but Ford met the moment with innovation. The Ta**us launched and brought fresh energy to the lineup, while the F-Series continued its legendary run as America's best-selling truck.

Peter and Ed took the reins during this pivotal decade, guiding the dealership through change with the same commitment to service that started it all.

The 1970s marked a turning point for Bird Kultgen Ford as Peter and Ed Kultgen joined their grandfather in the family business. Three generations working side by side, serving the people of Waco with the same values that started it all.

It wasn't always easy—the oil embargo tested the entire industry—but our commitment to this community never wavered.

Decades later, that same spirit drives everything we do. We're still family-owned, still rooted in Waco, and still honored to serve the people who've made this journey possible.

9 Decades of History: The 1960s were a decade of progress, passion, and the birth of an icon.

In 1964, the Ford Mustang roared onto the scene and captured the hearts of a generation. It was bold, it was beautiful, and it was unmistakably American.

Back home in Waco—a city of about 95,000—big things were happening too. The new Lake Waco Dam was completed in 1965, and Jack Kultgen was making a difference in our community through civil rights efforts, serving as the first Caucasian board member of Paul Quinn College, and leading the charge to transform Connally Air Force Base into TSTC.

It was a time of change, growth, and building something that would last for generations.

The 1950s were a special time in Waco—a community of about 85,000 people coming together through growth, challenge, and celebration. 🌟

The Heart O' Texas Fair & Rodeo got its start. The iconic 1955 Thunderbird became an instant hit. Ford trucks began growing in popularity. And after the devastating 1953 tornado, this community did what it does best—came together to rebuild.

Bird Kultgen was honored to be part of those efforts, helping neighbors get back on their feet and back on the road.

That spirit of community? It's still what drives us today. 💙

Honoring 9 Decades of History 📜✨

As World War II changed life across America, Waco became an important part of the war effort with the opening of Waco Army Airfield and Blackland Army Airfield.

In 1942, Ford halted civilian vehicle production and shifted factory focus toward the war effort, building B-24 bombers, engines, military trucks, and GPWs. By 1947, a new era began for BK Ford and Waco as we opened a new location complete with the modern luxury of "conditioned air!" 🧊🚗
