MY CAR GOT TOWED BY THE POLICE! NOW WHAT?
1. Find Out Where Your Car Is
If you were given a towing notice or citation, check your Citation for contact details first before calling Dispatch.
Call the local police department's non-emergency number. For Meade County Residents:
Meade County Dispatch: 270-422-4182
2. Confirm Why It Was Towed
Was it parked illegally?
Was it involved in an accident?
Was it impounded due to unpaid tickets or legal issues?
Did your friend borrow your car and "Surprise"! Now you find out your car is locked up in some impound yard.
3. You'll likely need the following items:
A valid driver’s license
Vehicle registration
Proof of insurance
Proof of ownership (title or registration)
A Towing Company cannot release a vehicle legally without proof of ownership, especially If there was a hold placed on your vehicle for no insurance, no registration, or unlicensed operator.
You will have to provide documents required by the Police.
4. Pay the Fees
There will be towing, storage, and possible fines you need to clear before release.
Waiting too long can get expensive.
Call the Towing Company as soon as you can and make an inquiry.
5. Visit the Tow Yard -
Call the Towing Company and inform them you are on your way prior to arrival. This prevents waiting while the receptionist looks over the impound instructions from Police.
Bring the required documents and payment (we only accept cash or card). Calling first will prevent a wasted day at the impound yard.
6. Resolve Any Legal Issues
If your car was towed due to unpaid tickets, expired registration, or other legal issues, you may need to settle those first. This relates back to Police holds. The Police will advise the Towing Company to hold the vehicle until all discrepancies have been resolved.
At Merciful Towing, we do not want your vehicle. We request you call us as soon as possible and make arrangements to retrieve your vehicle. Ask if there are any Police holds so we may advise you what documents we will need to see. If your documents are in your glove box, that’s okay, we will retrieve the items from your vehicle. All companies charge daily for storage. The invoice does climb rapidly and we will do everything within our power to assist you in getting that vehicle back into your possession.
