I am a sceptic so when I viewed laser clips online I had chalked it up to fancy film editing........wow was I wrong! This weekend https://www.z-beam.com/ stopped by the shop to let me try out some of there equipment. Pretty Impressed! We ran a number of tests on auto parts with surface rust, military paint, etc. Without a doubt one of the fastest and cleanest cleaning processes I have every used. Those that came to our shop 15 years ago will remember a giant Liquid Abrasive system that we were using. Worked well but upkeep and consumables were expensive. The laser: Fast, Check. No Consumables, Check. Portable, Check.....

We recently scored a large batch of 406/416/419 hinge pins at a great price. Now might be the time to inspect the condition of your pins and hinges. Open the door to 90 degrees, and lift on the outer edge. Any up and down movement?

There are a number of things that our community and enthusiasts should be aware of in regards to the current import market of our classic vehicles and parts.

Section 232 Tariffs - The word for today is Derivative Products. We had already been dealing with 25% Tariffs on most of our auto parts. The other shoe has dropped that made the 25% tariffs look downright cheap! Products that include Steel, or Aluminum (Many auto parts do) are now being hit at a minimum of 50% tariff on the steel/aluminum content. However, in order to be graced with the 50% tariff we must be able to prove the Smelt and Pour, or Smelt and Cast locations of the metal used in said auto parts. If we cannot prove that, then we are looking at up to 200% tariff. This has HUGE implications to our community. You have just found that rare 411 part in Germany. Does the seller know where the metal was Smelt or Cast? Could they produce a mill certificate?

De-minimis Exemption Reduced from $800 to $100. In Layman's terms this means that any shipment over $100 coming into the US must have a formal customs entry. Currently we are seeing HUGE backlogs with the carriers who simply cannot handle the volume of entries. A number of the carriers have started abandoning shipments that do not have the proper paperwork. (Invoice, missing smelt/cast location.....?) If you have an inbound shipment caught in this black hole, we highly suggest you request the carrier to turn over the entry to your own customs broker.

Ro-Ro Shipments Just took a HUGE Hit - The USTR Recovery Fee is now being passed along to the shipper. Wallenius is $19 per cubic meter, K-line is $22 per cubic meter. This equates to a rate hike of 15-30% of shipping cost on Ro-Ro shipments. Do not forget to take this into account.

The MPT 91 has been released and is now in stock in the 275 and 365 sizes. New Rubber compound for better tread wear, higher load capacity, new carcass design with Stable bead technology. Currently delivering the 275/80R20 and the 365/80R20. 335's slated to release early next year.

We are fielding a lot of questions about tariffs and our prices. We have intentionally not made drastic price changes in the hopes that cooler heads will prevail and things will get back to a reasonable level. We have not seen that happen and after 2-3 months of imports with Brutal tariff bills, it is time to explain how we are handling these changing times.

In general we are seeing a 25% increase on our hard cost on part numbers coming out of the EU due to the auto parts sector tariffs. (98% of our business) In addition, we are looking at an additional 10% increase from the degradation of the value of the dollar. (Exchange Rates) Not to mention transportation costs that continue to sky rocket. Paint a pretty picture?

We as a company have chosen to handle these changes in an extremely targeted fashion, using our inventories we carry in Vallejo as a buffer. To put it in perspective....of the 7000 products on our website, tariffs have currently impacted pricing on less than 300 part numbers.

Instead of an across the board price increase, we are raising prices on the actual parts that are being imported under these new tariffs as they are being imported. Does this mean that some parts have skyrocketed in price? Absolutely. However, it is only on a small portion of the inventory that we stock.

Here is my advice. If you know that you are going to be needing a specific part or maintenance item: Is the price reasonable currently? If so, I would suggest you purchase. Once existing stock has to be replaced, any foreign exchange and tariffs at the time of import will be reflected in the new price.

A final note, do not get confused with the on again, off again country specific tariffs. We are dealing with Sector Tariffs which do not appear to be nearly as malleable with the current administration. Spring Cleaning. Did this years ago for a custom project that didn't happen. New Exhaust system and manifolds that we had Jet Hot Coating done on them. Huge difference.....

Had a little time to finish off some testing of our new 404 Gear Reduction Starters. Should be releasing these shortly. 3KW - 24V, US Made Geartrain. Very pleased with the end product and engineering. Stay Tuned.
